off—center chimney . Smaller , 1 1/2 story, 4 bay , gable roof
wing on east with center chimney . Main door with sidelights
and multi—paned transom . 6/6 windows . Gable roof dormers on
north slope of both sections .

2o. HISTORICAL AND ARCHITECTURAL IMPORTANCE:
This is one of Long Island ' s greatly admired old houses .
It is owned by Miss Jean Schneider who inherited the pro—
perty from her uncle , lames Kent. Kent was the proprietor
of a Brooklyn paint manufactory . This house was reportedly
built in 1660 . The very steep roof pitch indicates that this
was an early house .
