BOARD OF TOWN TRUSTEES TOWN OF $OLITHOLD Town Hall, $3095 Main l~oad P.O. Box 728 Southold. New York 11971 TELEPHONE (.516) 765-1801 November 16, 1982 Dear Mr. Latson: Referring to your approved application to build a retaining wall behind the marsh, the Town Trustees would like to suggest th~ now would be the appropriate ti.me to re-establish the natural marsh in front o£ your property. Placin~ the stones, cement slabs and other debris in back_ of the retainin~ wall will accomplish three basic things, namely: 1) By re-establishin~ the heavy marsh edge, you will help the fish and shellfish of the area for it is mn these tall grasses that much of the nutrient these organisms rely on comes from. 2) By removing the debris alon~ the marsh ed?e, the valuable natural thatch ~rass will re-establish itself as a thick solid mass, thereby holding your bank and Dreventin~ further erosion. 3) The unnatural look of the debris will be hidden under the trucked-in fill and the necessity of findinK a place for the debris will be taken care of. These are merely suggestions that the Board of Trustees hope you will consider when you implement your plan. Good Luck, ~ours truly, Paul Stoutenbur~h, President ~outhold Town Trustees .N~LE OF CP~EEK BOAFdD OF TOWN TRUSTEES Town Of Southold Somhotd.
