He said that once the in-house Resolution is passed you will not be able to use the tropical hardwood because it cannot be determined that the wood came from a sustainable environmentally correct harvesting system. You will be able to use pressure treated wood for all of the structural components-(but still need to use thru-flow for the decking). Hope this now makes it clear to you. We need to clarify what the Trustees mean by"they will release us from the use of tropical hardwood?" Does that mean we are released from FSC tropical hardwood and can use tropical hardwood that is not FSC certified? Or does that mean we can use another wood product? If that's the case, what wood product can we use for the pilings? For example: Is 6"x6"pressure treated wood from Home Depot acceptable? We want to make sure to do this correctly. Thank you for your efforts and patience in helping us. It is the DUNES and the natural curves create natural depressions and we must disturb the dunes or as little as possible. THERE IS NO NEED FOR THIS 'BRIDGE' BUT STAIRS. A bridge would be for decoration and convenience, an extended deck of great length. it is an unnecessary. I looked at the 'gully' and have provided photos in separate mail and it is the same as mine only a much shorter distance to the beach. The only thing that has been approved for such use so far in pettys bight are STAIRS (NO BRIDGE). I have 12 steps/stairs and their slope is much less and need 6 steps/stairs.they need about 6 steps/stairs to reach the beach and they can brush aside the small plants to walk to the water, like me and everyone else here. no one has a 'bridge', 'platform, 'deck' or'boardwalk' . THE APPLICANTS LAND IS FAIRLY FLUSH WITH THE BEACH except for their perceived 'gully'.The gully they describe is not more than a natural depression in the protected DUNES.THIS'GULLY' DOES NOT COLLECT WATER.there is no reason to make a 'bridge' over it. other neighbors at an elevation have been grated permission to build stairs to reach the bottom of the 'gully'so they can continue walking onto the beach. no one has a boardwalk, platform, bridge but stairs. I have provided photos of my steps at pettys bight, I am the immediate neighbor. NO ONE ELSE HAS SUCH A'BRIDGE' ON PETTYS BIGHT and would never get a permit if they wanted to build one. if the applicant were to get a permit then everyone will want one and build one. where do you stop?this isnt nassau county where the beaches have been corrupted, commercialized and now filthy. if they want to destroy the beach they should live in nassau where people are allowed to destroy the beach. people buy into this area because it is still pristine, because it isnt nassau county. but the first thing they want to do is make the wilderness their own and clear cut it or build on it for themselves for their own convenience and decoration destroying everyones view, wildlife and enjoyment of the pristine wilderness.this is not a 'bridge'they are describing but a WALKWAY, BOARDWALK,AN EXTENDED DECK. no one bought into this area to look at a useless 'bridge' covering the natural curves and elements of a natural beach protected supposedly by the town. IF YOU LOOK AT THE CURRENT USE OF STAIRS TO REACH THE BEACH you will see that no one has put a walkway, boardwalk, or extended deck to reach their attached deck to their house. no one would or ever has gotten a permit for anything but a functional stair to the beach with a small access platform. if the applicant, and my immediate neighbor, were to get a permit for a 48' 'bridge'then I want one too and will be applying and assume I wont be denied if she is grated such. ALL THE STEPS/STAIRS that exist here REQUIRED NO EXCAVATION.THE STAIRS LAY FLAT AGAINST THE DECLINE.The applicant can build a stair and lay it on the ground with minor hand digging for fasteners at each end. nothing on the bight has required EXCAVATION. 1 A'BRIDGE'WOULD NOT BE STABLE AND COULD NOT BE USED AS A PERMANENT'BRIDGE'.the proposed 'bridge' over the natural depression in the sandy beach would not be able to be permanent as anything that is built on sand and is also too close to the water remains unstable.you would have to drill pilings and have cement footings into the pristine beach to obtain stability.this would be outrageous and has not been done on this beach here. stairs are all that is needed, 1 IF THIS PROPOSED 'BRIDGE'WERE TO BE BUILT IN A WAY TO GUARANTEE STABILITY IT WOULD REQUIRE EXTREME EXCAVATION BEYOND THE AREA OF THE BUILD.they should install STAIRS like everyone else that would require HAND DIGGING ONLY so the surrounding and outlying area would not be disturbed or destroyed. IF A 48' LONG 'BRIDGE'WAS BUILT IN A TEMPORARY MANNER it may fall apart in a storm and may get flung into my house.this past storm part of such a 'bridge' broke off and got swept ashore and came very close to my house. if it got flung into a residence it could put the town at risk for being sued for damages since they permitted it. THE DESCRIPTION IS NOT COMPLETE. it appears that to build what is in this hand drawing you would need to disturb a larger area around it which this drawing does not show.the drawing is not definitive.the applicant may FLATTEN ALL THE DUNES AROUND THIS PROPOSED 'BRIDGE'to accomplish their final build of achieving a 6' deep excavation into the ground and protected beach.there will be no inspectors present to monitor this build and the applicant may take their project much further without interference.then if they remove trees, schrubs and their root system, dunes, wildlife, nests, those (and the view)will be gone forever, too late to restore.they have not included a PHOTOGRAPH but a DRAWING.their description does not say how a huge excavator will be able to clear its way to break up the beach and everything on it. I live next door and I walked to this spot and they only need 6 STAIRS which my photograph (sending in separate mail)would show. even looking at their drawing you can see that based on their drawing they need 6 steps/ stairs to reach the bottom of the depression and then they can clear a path to the beach from there like everyone else here has done to preserve the natural land. SAME DECLINE FOR STAIRS: their decline is the same as mine.we are on the same ridge but I need 12 steps and they need about 6. THIS IS NOT ABRIDGE' but a DECK and decks have EXISTING RULES. and if the rules apply it could not extend further than any other decks on Pettys Bight.they have a deck attached to their house and it is already to the maximum space permitted for all decks on Petty Bight. this would be an EXTENTION OF THEIR DECK.this is not necessary and a destruction of the delicate beach front. no one has excavated, dug and drilled and built 4'x 4"s into a 6' deep excavation into the sand on this beach for a bridge so far. nothing like this has ever been approved. THE APPLICANT USED A GOVERNMENT AGENCY WITHOUT CAUSE TO DISTURB ME. I walked to the edge of my property and onto theirs to take a photo of the proposed 'bridge' because THEY DIDNT PROVIDE ONE. I needed to see what they are talking about as their drawing is not definitive. I think they should be happy since they are asking for a permit. I think I have a right, since they invited me to the hearing,to inspect the area of the proposal and to take photos for examination. instead they used a government agency, the southold police department,to harass me. I dont know what the applicant told the cops but they were relentlessly ringing my bell, banging on my door, walking around my house, looking in the sliding glass doors for no reason when I went back inside my house.this is a waste of government funds and it is illegal to use a government agency for no other reason but to harass someone without cause or provocation. for a 2nd time 11:24am,sunday 3/19/17 a police car is parked outside my house and came knocking and ringing at my door again. I consulted my lawyer and have been advised that I do not need to answer my door. My neighbor, the applicant, knows me, knows that I was taking photos of the proposed 'bridge'for the hearing she invited me to which took less than 5 minutes. what would she do if a beachgoer wandered up her proposed 'bridge'?what about the other neighbors who are looking at the proposed 'bridge'? THE APPLICANT HAS DEMONSTRATED THATTHEY USE GOVERNMENT AGENCIES AND WILL CALL 911 WHEN BEACHGOERS THINK HER 'BRIDGE' IS A SHORTCUT AND WANDER ON HER PROPERTY. IT WOULD INVITE STRANGERS AND VISITORS to use it thinking it is a shortcut or pathway to and from the beach. during the summer there are beach parties at the easement which is next to the APPLICANTS HOUSE, and my house is right 2 I next to theirs. during the fall Pettys Bight is frequented by fishermen. beach party goers and fisherman may think this commercially built'bridge' is a 'beach access'. then the applicant may put up SIGNS and BILLBOARDS telling visitors to GO AWAY. no one wants that. The applicant may call 911 every time someone checks out their'bridge', or install floodlights, which no one wants,or put up "go away"signs and there will be nothing anyone will be able to do about that. I read the codes on installing outside lights and the light cannot leave anyones property line. any light they put on on their'bridge' will be shining outside their property line. PETTYS BIGHT DOES NOT NEED ANY MORE DECKS, BOARDWALKS, PLATFORMS,SIGNS,ANNOUNCEMENTS, LIGHTS, CLEARCUTTING,OR ANY OTHER COMMERCIALIZATION. It is bad enough people here put up any sign they can think of without permission or consultation with the other neighbors.when I moved here there were 2 signs. now there are over 19 signs. meanwhile not many people live here and there is no thru traffic, no kids running around, no reason for any signs.we are all old enough and dont need a 'stop sign' on every corner in a subdivision or a 'we love our kids'sign, like we need a sign for that. the applicant MAY BE PUTTING UP SIGNS telling everyone it is their PRIVATE DECK, BRIDGE, WALKWAY OR BOARDWALK. no one wants more signs or a reason for them.there will be no way to prevent the applicant from adding signs as people around here dont ask, they just put up any sign they want without consequence because there is no way to make a complaint and have it enforced. my neighbor bordering my vacant lot across from my house destroyed a 'no trespassing' sign I put up (professionally and at a great expense) at the vacant lot after he started using his tractor to clear cut it and make it his free side lawn. I asked him not to clear cut my lot and he tried to run me over with his tractor. I put up a professionally crafted 'no tresspassing'sign and he destroyed it. If applicant is able to install a "bridge'there may be many other consequences like them putting up signs and lights. THIS PROPOSED 'BRIDGE'WILL INTERFERE WITH AND DESTROY WILDLIFE HABITATS, DESTROY ROOT SYSTEMS, NESTS, NATURAL WILDLIFE TRAILS AND EVERYONES VIEW. and can be a hazard to THE WETLANDS, DUNES AND BEACH. A NATURAL WALKWAY THROUGH THE BRUSH AND DOWN THE DECLINE ALREADY EXISTS AND IS BEING USED BY APPLICANT. I submitted a photo of this separately. madi droege 885 pettys drive, immediate neighbor to the kobalkas. 3 z DiSalvo, Diane From: Madi111 <madi111@optonline.net> Sent: Sunday, March 19, 2017 8:08 PM To: DiSalvo, Diane Cc: Madeline Droege Subject: proposed 'bridge' by paul & margaret kobalka 1000-14-2-23 PHOTO OF SCOPE DECLINE, ONLY STAIRS ARE NEEDED Subject: proposed 'bridge' by paul & margaret kobalka 1000-14-2-23 PHOTO OF SCOPE DECLINE, ONLY STAIRS ARE NEEDED Date: March 19, 2017 at 9:45:43 AM EDT Cc: Madeline Droege <madi111(Qoptonline.net>. I have 12 steps and they need 6 steps. there is no landing at the top of my steps, no deck, extended deck, built walkway, board walk to my house from the steps on the flat land. at the bottom a plank washed up on shore and I dragged it over the the bottom of the stairs but they are not even necessary and you can walk from the bottom the the stairs to the beach. these STAIRS REQUIRED NO EXCAVATION, REMOVAL OF TREES, SCHRUBS, ROOT SYSTEMS, WILDLIFE HABITATS OR INTERFERED WITH ANYONES VIEW. if applicant is permitted a 48' walkway and `bridge' over and to the wetlands and beach then I will be asking for the same permit because this has never been permitted before and if the rules changed then I assume I wont be denied. i n' €g 3 t , DiSalvo, Diane From: Madilll <madilll@optonline.net> Sent: Sunday, March 19, 2017 8:17 PM To: DiSalvo, Diane Cc: Madeline Droege Subject: proposed 'bridge' by paul & margaret kobalka 1000-14-2-23. photo shows a 'bridge' is not necessary on the flat land leading to the depression as shown marked by blue flags.
