Chairman’s Comments  Chairman Garretson announced that there would be a presentation on historic preservation in conjunction with the Peconic Land Trust on Saturday at the Southold Historical Society at 10 AM. He also discussed the need to hold additional workshops with those in the real estate and construction industries.  Chairman Garretson also discussed the need to bring the issue of the Community Preservation Fund to the forefront. He also gave an update on the SPLIA mapping project and noted that the town would like the HPC to review the maps before they are made public. Vote on Resolution #10.18.16.5, Passed: Unanimous  Resolution #10.18.16.5, recommending inclusion of The Race Rock Light Station, Fisher’s Island, to the town’s registry of historic structures, passed unanimously. Passed: Unanimous o Public Hearing  Prudence Wickham and Dan Heston, Salt Air Farm LLC, 1535/1555 New Suffolk Road, Cutchogue (SCTM# 1000-109.-7-10.5) – proposed relocation of a registered landmark structure (barn). The public hearing was opened by Chairman Garretson at 3:17 PM. o Commissioners asked the applicants how they would be moving the structure. The o applicants noted that they would be dismantling the barn, piece by piece, and moving it that way. In addition to moving the barn, the applicants noted that they would be o demolishing a portion of the barn that was built later. Commissioners asked about the location of the barn and whether or not it would o be aligned with the other buildings on the property. Mr. Heston explained that the original survey submitted was incorrect and that the barn would in fact be aligned with the existing buildings on the property. The applicants agreed to hand draw the location of the barn on the survey and o sign it prior to the issuance of the Certificate of Appropriateness. Commissioners asked why the barn was being moved. The applicants explained o that the barn was “jammed into the corner”, making it very difficult to use. Resolution #10.18.16.2 – Passed: Unanimous  Resolution #10.18.16.2, approving the proposed relocation of the existing barn at 1535/1555 New Suffolk Road, Cutchogue (SCTM# 1000-109.-7-10.5). (A full copy of the resolution is on file in the Southold Town Building department.). Public Hearing  Evan Lewis, 2395 Village Lane, Orient (SCTM# 1000-26.-1-12.1). Proposed addition and alteration (dormer) to an existing dwelling on a landmarked property in the Orient Historic District. The public hearing was opened by Chairman Garretson at 3:45 PM. o The applicant’s attorney, Mark Schwartz, presented the changes that had been o requested at the September pre-submission conference including soffit details, divided light details, the replacement of asphalt shingles in kind, and the use cedar siding. Commissioner Feiler asked what type of window would be used in the dormer o addition and Mark Schwartz said that the applicant would use an “A Series” divided light window. Resolution #10.18.16.3 – Passed: Unanimous  Resolution #10.18.16.3, approving the proposed addition and alteration (dormer) to an existing dwelling at 2395 Village Lane, Orient (SCTM# 1000-26.-1-12.1). (A full copy of the resolution is on file in the Southold Town Building department.). Public Hearing  Scofield, 2355 Village Lane, Orient (SCTM# 1000-26.-1-13) – proposed alteration (roofing) to an existing accessory building on a landmarked property in the Orient Historic District. The public hearing was opened by Chairman Garretson at 4:00 PM. o After a brief discussion, Chairman Garretson decided to keep the hearing open o until the next meeting when all members were present. Old Business  Update RTLI 150 Baywater Avenue, Southold, Commissioner Harper gave an update on the progression of work at the above o referenced property through the Rebuilding Together Long Island organization and invited members to visit the site and review the progress.  Update Brochures. Commissioner Surchin provided the group with draft changes to the existing o Historic Preservation Commission brochures, which are handed out to the public. The current brochures are outdated. Commissioners agreed to review the draft changes and discuss further at the o November meeting.  Preservation Incentives Commissioner Harper expressed interest in drafting a letter to the town board o regarding the need for incentives, specifically through the CPF. Chairman Garretson said he would like to first discuss the issue with Supervisor o Russell. Meeting Adjourned  The meeting was adjourned unanimously on a motion by Commissioner Surchin and a second by Commissioner Harper.
