RECREATION DEPARTMENT
Monthly Report: February 2017
2017 BEACH SEASON:
Returning employee applications were mailed to last years’ staff. (The deadline for returning
rd
employees is March 3). Applications for new beach attendants, lifeguards and swim instructors
have been received.Interviews will be scheduled to secure additional staff as needed. The
Department is also looking to secure a second beach manager to ensure adequate coverage for the
summer.
SPRING 2017 BROCHURE:
The brochure will be an insert in the March 2nd edition of the Suffolk
Times. Community members are able to preview the class information on-line in the Recreation
portal and on the Town’s website. A Powerpoint slideshow promoting the spring classes is also
viewable on the public announcement monitor in the Recreation Center.
ONLINE REGISTRATION
: We will begin online registration for spring programs on March 2.
BUS TRIPS:
Tickets for both Mets and Yankee baseball games have been purchased.
Transportation quotes have been received, and busses are in the process of being secured.

Registration for the bus trips will open on May 11 with the release of the Summer Brochure.
LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS:
The first session in March is now full and there is a
waitlist of participants looking to take this first class. Several spots are still available for the second
session in May.
RECREATION CENTER FACILITY:
A bid has been accepted for the replacement of the Recreation
Center floor. Funds are being reappropriated to make up the difference between the amount of funds
anticipated from HUD and the actual bid received. Tentative plans are underway to begin the project
in early April.
RECREATION DEPARTMENT DEPOSITS & EXPENDITURES:
Following are copies of our monthly
bank statement. Please note that any withdrawals on the bank statement are program refunds for
those participants who paid with a credit card.
