We will begin online registration for spring programs on March 2.
LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS:
The Recreation Department will be providing our first
and the only known American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification courses on the North Fork. In the
past, anyone in need of this certification had to travel to Montauk or as far west as Patchogue.
Through a collaboration with Peconic Landing and Margaret Tuttle, this certification is now available
at no cost to the Town. Two FULL certifications courses will be offered. In addition, courses are also
available for lifeguards in need of just CPR or lifeguard recertification. Local Park Districts and area
business are excited to have this opportunity for their own employees to take our course. This course
will also help alleviate some of the difficulties the Town has had in the past in securing enough
lifeguards for the busy summer season.
2017 BEACH SEASON:
Preparations are underway to ensure adequate coverage for this summer.
Applications were mailed out to last year’s beach manager, lifeguards, and beach attendants.
Discussions are also underway to try to secure swimming instructors. Once all applications are
received (deadline is Friday, March 3), it will be determined if any additional personnel are needed.
Interviews will then be scheduled.
RECREATION CENTER FACILITY:
Bids to replace the Recreation Center floor have been received.
Unfortunately, there has been a reduction in the amount of funds anticipated from HUD. Plans are
underway to try to reappropriate funds to make up the difference.
RECREATION DEPARTMENT DEPOSITS & EXPENDITURES:
Following are copies of our monthly
bank statement. Please note that any withdrawals on the bank statement are program refunds for
those participants who paid with a credit card.
Sincerely,
Janet Douglass
Recreation Supervisor
