I am writing to document a safety concern and complaint regarding the crosswalk in front of Handy Pantry. Aside from the fact that MANY drivers do not even hesitate to stop as I wait to cross, multiple times i have been nearly hit by drivers heading westbound on 25 that are assuming the car in front of them is stopped to wait for a left turn onto New Suffolk Ave. they proceed to pass that car on the right, not knowing that in fact someone was crossing the crosswalk, and many times just fly by on the shoulder as I am halfway across the westbound lane! This happened yesterday again, as a speeding Jeep with possible HighSchool students at lunch whipped around the car and slammed on their brakes as they saw me crossing. I know the crossing has been there for about 8 years now, as I was one of the locals that requested it. I am not able to drive due to poor vision, and use that crossing often. I assumed in time it would get better as people realized it being there, but honestly most times at least three cars pass me as I wait to cross, sometimes AS I CROSS!! I want to begin to document this and will email each time this happens to me. I think it should be moved either slightly east or west, or we need a marker in the middle, or a flashing sign a pedestrian can press before crossing. Thank you for your consideration of this danger.
