Upon receipt of an application for a Pre-Existing Certificate
of Occupancy, I made an inspection of buildings on this premises.
I was admitted to main dwelling by George E. Latham, Jr. who ac-
companied me during this inspection that began at approximately
2:00 P.M.
Main dwelling is a two-story wood framed structure constructed
on a rubble stone foundation. First floor contains two living rooms, o
front entry hallway, bedroom with a lavatory sink and toilet, dining
room, kitchen, pantry, utility room with laundry facilities, rear
porch entry off kitchen, and an enclosed porch on southwest corner
providing entry to west living room. Second floor contains three
bedrooms and a full bathroom. Heat is furnished to all rooms on first
and second floors, except southwest bedroom on second floo~, from an
oil-fired steam heat furnace located in partial cellar.
A second dwelling in rear yard area is a two-story wood framed
dwelling constructed on a poured concrete foundation. First floor
contains a living room, kitchen, and a full bathroom. Second floor
has two bedrooms. Heat is furnished to building from an oil-fired
warm air space heater with heat outlet cut into floor of hallway
connecting living room and kitchen. Foundation provides a full cellar
with exterior stairway. Accessory buildings include a two-room wood
frame storage building constructed on a concrete foundation, a garage
workshop with lean-to, a large barn for farm equipment storage, and
a one-car garage in side yard area.
The following violations of the Housing Code, Chapter 52, Code
of the Town of Southold, New York, were found:
MAIN DWELLING
Bedroom - first floor, bathroom facilities in room, wood floor
not provided with moisture resistant material, Article V,
Section 52-26 A 4.
Stairway - from first floor front entry hallway to second floor
hallway, no means of controlling light for safe ascent or
descent, Article V, Section 52-26 B 3.
Fuel oil - piping, tanks located in cellar, fill pipe terminates
within building, Article V, Section 52-59 C 2.
Exterior - trim, eaves, and cornice, paint peeling exposing
wood to elements. Trim on east side where cornice and wall

meet has been worn away by destructive insects causing ex-
cessive openings to attic. Rear entry, porch steps deter-
iorating, Article V, Section 52-30 A, Section 52-31 B.
SECOND DWELLING
Kitchen - no cooking and refrigeration equipment provided,
Article V, Section 52-57 A 1.
Bedroom - (east room), ceiling light fixture, porcelain
type, not securely fastened, Article V, Section 52-56 A 2.
Plumbing facilities - no equipment for furnishing hot water
to fixtures within dwelling, Article V, Section 52-51 D 1.
ACCESSORY STRUCTURES
Two room storage shed, roof shingles missing at southeast
corner. Barn for farm equipment, roof shingles missing on
east side of roof, Article III, Section 52-31 C.

APPLICATION FOR CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY
Instructions
A. This application must be filled in typewriter OR ink, and submitted in triplicate to the Building
Inspector with the following; for new buildings or new use:
1. Final survey of property with accurate location of all buildings, property lines, streets, and
unusual natural or topographic features.
2. Final approval of Health Dept. of water supply and sewerage disposal--(S-9 form or equal).
3. Approval of electrical installation from Board of Fire Underwriters.
4. Commercial buildings, Industrial buildings, Multiple Residences and similar buildings and
installations, a certificate of Code compliance from the Architect or Engineer responsible for
the building.
5. Submit Planning Board approval of completed site plan requirements where applicable.
B. For existing buildings (prior to April 1957), Non-conforming uses, or buildings and "pre-existing"
land uses:
1. Accurate survey o'f property showing all property lines, streets, buildings and unusual natural
or topographic features.
2. Sworn statement of owner or previous owner as to use, occupancy and condition of buildings.
3. Date of any housing code or safety inspection of buildings or premises, or other pertinent in-
formation required to prepare a certificate.
C. Fees:
