The minutes of the March 21, 2016 meeting were approved
We had a new member join us this evening, we would like to welcome
Sandra Martocchia of Greenport to the Southold Youth Bureau. Sandra
Is a former teacher in the Cutchogue-Mattituck School district, she has
two daughters in the Greenport School district and will be a welcome
addition to our group.
Also present was Denis Noncarrow who is the Government Liason with
the Town of Southold. Denis will be a big help getting things out to the
public and helping us with our budget.
Bob gave a report on the mac and cheese dinner that the Youth Advisory
council provided to the homeless at Johns Place in Matituck. All went well,
and we made enough mac and cheese that they were able to feed the
homeless on two other occasions with it. Looking forward to doing this
again next year as it is a great chance for them to help folks who are not
as well off as they might be.
We spoke of the “bike swap” that is coming up on May 21 at the rec.
st
center. Jeff, can you arrange for a truck from the DPW’s to transport any
left over bikes to C.A.S.T.?
Anyone who wishes to help would be more than welcome. Sandra took
some flyers to put up around Greenport, and if anyone can hand out flyers
2
In Mattituck, Cutchogue or Southold, please do. I find if you ask the
shopkeeper if you can put up a “public service announcement, they are
usually more than happy to let you.
The next subject was obtaining a banner for the Youth Bureau to be hung
at any function we sponsor. Karen was going to look into this, but Denis
found one in Town Hall so we’re good with this.
We spoke about our “family movie night” in August. We will contact the
NY Organ Donor Network to see if they might be interested in
underwriting some or all of the expense for this.
It was decided that each of us should, at the next meeting, provide a list
of FIVE (5) movies, oh my gosh, homework! The movies must be age
appropriate for young families and most assuredly animated, however it
was brought up that parents are, shall I say, overwhelmed, tired of, etc,
Frozen, so let’s leave that off our lists.
Denis, in the name of the Youth Bureau, has applied to Suffolk County
for funding for jobs for students in Southold Town. The students must be
residents of the Town but may go to school outside the Town. When we
find out how much funding, then we can start the search for students.
The next, and last of the school year, meeting of the Youth Advisory
Council will be a pizza party. The members will be asked to bring a friend
along who would be interested in joining the YAC next school year.
Next meeting, Monday May 23, 2016 at the Mattituck
Senior Center at 5:00 PM. Please RSVP
See you then
Respectfully submitted
Bob Duffin
