Box 1179 Southold, New York 11971-0959 Fax (631) 765-1823 Telephone (631) 765-1889 Town of Southold Youth Bureau Board Minutes May 23, 2016 Present: Robert Duffin, Christina Witzke, Jillian Ruroede, Andrea Nydegger, Jeff Standish, Jim Dinizio, Phyllis Markopoulos (for Karen) Absent: Karen McLaughlin, Sandra Martocchia, William Ruland, Linda Ruland, William Brewer, Elaine White, Patricia Mellas, Denis Noncarrow The minutes of the April 25, 2016 were approved I told the board that the Bike Swap was a large success. It helped that we had good weather. We had approx. 25 bikes donated, and about 25 swapped. At the end of the day, through donations and swapping, we had enough bikes to send 30 to CAST. When I called Greg at Country Time Cycle in Mattituck to thank him for sending two bike techs, he said he had a couple of more bikes to send to CAST. Still no movement in the hiring of the “new” Phillip, sounds like Civil Service might be the holdup. The decision was made to host Southold Youth Bureau night at an Qsprey’s game on Friday, July 8 at 7PM. We will provide the free th popcorn to the fans as a way of getting the word out about the Youth Bureau. I will be there at 6:45 to start making the popcorn. Jeff, could you please set up the machine for us? You said that we had popcorn left from last year. I always have fun doing this, talking to the parents and the kids, the first thing the parents want to know is how much? When we tell them it’s compliments of the Youth Bureau, that usually brings a big thank you, and that’s all we ask for. 2 I’d appreciate any help I can get, it’s really at least a two person job. The next topic of conversation was the movie night. We decided that it will be in August. Denis is going to be a big help here. He has offered to do most of the leg work involved. From calling the Organ Donor Network to see if they would underwrite the movie as they did last year, to calling “Movies in the Moonlight” to reserve a date. It will be a Saturday night. I asked him to ask for Aug 27 th first, than Aug 20, if they’re not available, we’ll work something out. th The next discussion was what movie to show. Karen made some good recommendations and so did Linda, but ultimately the tough decision came down to me. Now don’t shoot the messenger, but we are going to try for Despicable Me. It’s a fun movie for young and old alike, I believe that’s where we first met the Minnons. Again, as we do for the baseball game, we serve free popcorn, you make a lot of new friends that way. At our next meeting, I’ll talk about the Youth Advisory Council meeting that took place after ours. Our next meeting is on TUESDAY June 21, 2016 at the Peconic La. Community Center Sorry about the change of day, couldn’t do it on Monday See you then Respectfully submitted Bob Duffin
