This regular meeting of the Southold Town Tree Committee was called to order at 7:00 PM at
the Southold Town Annex.
Minutes from the June 24, 2015 meeting were approved.
Next meeting: October 28, 2015 7:00 PM Southold Town Annex Board Room.
Discussion items:
1. Dave spoke to Mark Terry in regard to applicants from the Planning Board that make
donations to the Tree Committee in lieu of plantings that may be impracticable at their
locations. Mark will keep the Tree Committee in the,loop when this situation arises, so
the Tree Committee can be part of the discussion.
2. Dave will meet with Jeff Standish about where the tree for the 375th Anniversary will be
planted at Silversmiths Corner, what type of tree (Gingko or Tulip) and when the tree
will be planted. The Tree Committee will provide a plaque for this tree.
3. Peggy suggested that local Boy Scout troops be contacted to volunteer to clean up and
clear up brush around the memorial tree plaques that are located throughout the town.
Dave will ask Derek to do this.
4. Don will locate plaque in memory of Kenneth Kavesh (Main Road Cutchogue) as his
daughter requests it to either be moved or turned over to her.
5. Dave and Don will talk to/meet with'the NYS DOT representative to see what can be
done about the area along the front of Southold Pharmacy and the buildings there.
6. Peggy asked about trees being trimmed,"Dave said the trees planted in the last 5-10 years
between Peconic and Orient would be trimmed.
7. Jay will look for the master sheet of the plaques that have been installed.
8. Letters were prepared and sent out to the local schools about 2016 Arbor Day Poster
Contest.
