Economic Development Committee (EDC) Meeting Minutes
2015
Present:
Rona Smith, John McLane, Sara Garretson, John Stype, Councilman William
Ruland. Excused: Supervisor Scott Russell, Steve Latham, Carolyn Fahey, Donielle
Cardinale,Tony Cocheo. Attending by Invitation: Pay Snyder, Executive Director of East
End Arts.
Meeting was called to order at 2:00 p.m.
Minutes:
1. The Minutes of the November 20, 2015 meeting were approved.
East End Arts
2. : Pat Snyder, Executive Director, made a brief presentation
regarding East End Arts. Presentation was followed by a discussion of possible
areas of collaboration with Southold Town. Ms. Snyder described Jump Start, a
6 month professional development program for artists. EDC agreed that we
would work with EEA to conduct a survey of the Southold Arts sector (to include
arts organizations, for profit entities such as galleries, and artists). This would be
a project for the second quarter of 2016.
Small Business Saturday promotion:
3. Sara Garretson gave a brief report on
Small Business Saturday. Further discussion was tabled regarding 2016
participation until a later meeting.
Food Sector Project:
4. Sara Garretson provided an update; further discussion
was tabled because Sara, Rona and John were meeting with Karen Karp after
the end of the EDC Meeting.
Suffolk Times
5. : The Committee discussed the recent article about a psychiatric
facility. The members decided that no action was necessary at this time.
2016 Agenda Planning
6. : We have tentatively scheduled meetings for 2016 on
the third Friday of the month at 2pm. The focus of the first quarter is planned to
be the food sector; the focus of the second quarter is to be the cultural sector.
New Business
7. : A request by a local businessman who is planning on building a
new facility in Mattituck was discussed and it was suggested we invite him to the
next meeting.
Adjournment:
8. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at
4:30pm. The next meeting is scheduled for 1/15/2015.
