Meeting Minutes
The Economic Development Committee accepted the February 19, 2016 minutes.
Guest Speaker
Ray Pickersgill of Suffolk County Downtown Revitalization spoke about grants. The goal of the
grant money is to provide economic benefits to a town i.e. sidewalks, safe lighting, parking lots.
Items that the grant will not cover are benches, flowers, and cameras. Each year they receive
twenty to thirty applicants. The top ten applicants receive the most funding. The Committee will
be able to look at previously funded projects. Ray stressed the importance of not reapplying for a
project that had been funded previously. Ray’s contact number is 553-9349.
Food Sector Luncheon Coordination
The committee’s luncheon is set to be held March 23, 2016 at Peconic Landing. Eight members
will be in attendance. The members discussed the final invitee list. Tasks were divided amongst
the members. Reminder email was sent out to all invitees. The goal of the luncheon is to listen
and to let the invitees drive the topics. Note pads will be placed on all tables.
New Business – Sara Garretson
Sara Garretson introduced the idea of a new helpful tool. A technology based company for
economic development is hosting a webinar that may be of interest to the committee. The topic
of the webinar is “Cultivating Entrepreneurs in Rural Communities”.
The meeting concluded at 5 p.m.
