Ruland, Rona Smith, John Stype Excused: Donielle Cardinale, Tony Cocheo, Carolyn Fahey, Supervisor Scott Russell Approval of March 18th Minutes Guest Speaker: Heather Lanza on Land Use Discussion of Luncheon Outcome Next Month Meeting Minutes The Economic Development Committee accepted the March 18, 2016 minutes. Guest Speaker Heather Lanza Heather Lanza attended the meeting to discuss multiple items and answer questions. The Town is currently looking at and editing the different chapters of the Town Code. Below are key points given by Heather: Affordable Housing – reaffirmed as one of the top goals of the Town, the o committee is working on an update Agricultural Advisory Committee – looking into agricultural chapter, looking for o more opportunity for value added products, the Town addressed to allow for limited retail space Land Use Chapter – Planning will be hosting three meetings focusing on specific o hamlets. Meetings will be town wide and will discuss hamlet goals. Concerns and points raised by the Economic Development Committee: Can local government look into food sanitary laws o Can the Town make the code easier to use o The Town needs new businesses o Can there be a mechanism on the Town’s website for people looking to start a o business Idea of a shuttle from Riverhead to the East End for workforce o Discussion of Luncheon Outcome Points raised at Luncheon: Increase in assessment How do we adapt if the rules are always changing DRS – Development Rights Sold Regulatory- issue of local and federal reugulations, conflicting -There needs to be a mechanism, proactive in differences Peconic Land Trust Long Island Farm Bureau Supply System: cost of input, supplies, transportation Next Month The Committee will work on the answers to the questions raised at the luncheon. The meeting concluded at 5:21 p.m.
