PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Beach nourishment by the placement of fill pursuant to
the attached work area diagram and sections designated as
Project Area 'A' and 'B' to replenish materials eroded over
the past several years in an area that is precluded from
natural replenishment due to prior public and private action,
i.e. the impervious updrift harbor line within Orient Harbor
and the artificial deep water created off the end of Harbor
River Road in conjunction with the construction of State
Route 25 in 1931. Maintenance of the beach and the protection
of the adjacent dune area is critical to the protection of
the applicants property as well as many other properties of
similar elevation within the central village area of Orient.
The material will be clean 'Gardiners Bay' gravel that
is available from the Cross Sound Ferry terminal at Orient
Point (DEC Permit S-25). The work is to be undertaken in
cooperation with work by the Highway Department of the Town
of Soathold in maintaining its bulkhead at the end of Harbor
River Road. ( Permits applied for)
Approximate amount of material:
Project Area 'A' 280 cu yds.
Project Area 'B' 100 cu yds.
The applicant requests permission to maintain the area
in the same condition for a period of 5 years if additional
replenishment becomes necessary due to future erosive actions.

the harbor or creek frontage which has been altered several
times between 1926 and 1975 by both public action in placing
dredge spoi~ in the dune area from the highway construction
project in 1931 and similar placement of material one or more
times prior to 1975 by abuttors dredging of the creek area.
The locus of the proposed work area and property limits are
