Dear Mr. Hecker:
As per our discussion there is really no need for the replacement of the
existing bulkhead onsite. Brushes Creek has no boat traffic to cause
erosion from wave action and the tidal flow does not cause erosion problems.
Since the bulkhead north of the existing dock is nonfunctioning and there
already exists an excellent stand of Spartina alterniflora (Smooth Cordgrass),
it should be removed. Removal will not create a negative impact to the site.
Once removed Spartina patens (Saltmeadow Cordgrass) should be planted
above mean high tide. Page 2 of Conservation Plant Sheet - 70 shows the
anticipated results form this form of vegetative treatment. Page 3 provides
a diagram of an appropriate planting scheme.
The area south of the bulkhead should be treated in a similar manner, except
that the bulkhead should remain in place. Removal at this point will cause
more harm than good. Once it begins to fat] it should be removed to allow
the Spartina to take over.
If you have any questions or [ can be of further assistance feel free to
contact me at 516-727-2315.

Application of HECKER, LEWIS 127-6-3 to remove and replace (in kind/in

The CAC disapproves the bulkhead and recommend stabilizing vegetatively
following recommendations which can be obtained from Soil Conservation. The
