Chairman’s Comments
Chairman Garretson gave the floor to Commissioner Grathwohl to discuss the cancelled
“Historic Preservation Week” and the erroneous ad that appeared in the Suffolk Times.
Although the event was cancelled by the commission, the Suffolk Times erroneously
published an advertisement announcing the event.
The Suffolk Times agreed to print a retraction/apology.
Commissioner Grathwohl said that as a result of the advertisement in the paper, he
received a lot of interest in the event from the public.
Chairman Garretson noted that, based on that interest, there was a need for the event.

landmarked property in the Southold Historic District.
The applicant expressed interest in return the structure, which had been the subject of
numerous alterations over the years, to its original state. In order to do so, he said that he
would need to do some investigative work that involved removing siding and repairing
existing conditions.
The Commission directed Damon Rallis to write an administrative permit to remove
siding, repair trim, repair windows, and for any in-place or in-kind work. The applicant
was informed that any other proposed work, particularly structural work, would require
full construction drawings and a public hearing, which would be scheduled for October
20, 2015.
The commission passed resolution 9.15.15.1 for the issuance of the administrative permit.
Commissioner Harper agreed to be the application liaison to the project.

Chairman Garretson informed Mr. Anderson that, in order for the public hearing to move
forward, the HPC would need:
A cut sheet for the windows.
o
Information showing that the trim and siding would match the existing structure.

Chairman Garretson also reminded Mr. Anderson that the windows should match,
including the fascia.
Old Business
Suffolk Times Advertising
Donald Feiler discussed plans for a public service announcement in the Suffolk Times
regarding the importance of preservation.
Commissioners discussed the idea of before and after pictures as part of the ad and
agreed to further discuss which photos could be used and whether or not there’s a need
for property owner permission.
Commissioners agreed that an ongoing ad campaign would be best.
The possibility of a regular “preservation” column was also discussed.
