T~rm [xDires March 30 19~2 BOARD OF TOWN TRUSTEES TnWN OF SOUTHI3LD September 9, 1969 Dr. Thomas E. Samuels Auth. Representative Fisherm~rr~s B~ch Association Cutchogue, L.I. Dear Dr. Samuels; At the meeting of the Southold Town Trustees held on Monday, September 8, 1969, the Trustees examined the application of Fisherman~ Beach Association to dredge in the main channel, Broadwaters Creek. The Trustees request that you indicate on the enclosed application the area where the excavated 300 yards of fill is to be placed. An envelope is enclosed for your convenience. The Trustees were satisfied with the explanation I gave them as to what you had done at Fisherman's Beach and trust that you will follow through on whatever is necessary. The Board appreciates your prompt attention in this matter. A copy of the application of Walter Miller is enclosed and is self explanatory. Very truly yours, -Marion A. Rege~ Secretary Southold Town Trustees The Southold Town Board South Street OreenpOrt, New York Gentlemen As owners of Lots 18 and 19 at the Northwest end of Fisherman's Beach, Nassau Point, we respectfully red, est that the Board consider sharing the cost of dredging the channel on the Haywaters 6~eek side of said lots under the Town's "matching funds" program. Prior to the County's dredging of the general area in 1965, the existing channel ran along the entire creek length of Fisherman's Beach ~ich kept the water clean and the northwest tip of the channel open to boating. -However, with the County dredging the channel Line was changed to run directly north up into the Lad Creek area, with a spur eastward toward the Nassau Point causeway, running parallel to Mason Drive (see copy of map attached). As a result, the former channel behind Fisherman's Beach is grad~n~ly filling in, the water is becoming sluggish and dirty and at lowtide, it is impossible to get any except the smallest boats around the northwest tip of the Beach.. ~ai[ ~:~r[dr~. or~) ~l, ~ox ~utc~o~ue, .~. fl., ~ ~. 11735 The Southold Town Board Page ~ To alleviate the situation, we propose dredging a channel approximately 30 Feet wide and 6 Feet deep at mean low ~ater from the County established Ifforth/ South channel bet-~een Fisherman's Beach and Fleet's Neck, behind lot 18 and .al~pro~imately ½ of lot 19 to existing deep water behind the other ½ of lot 19. The proposed new channel would be approximately 30 Feet off the existing shore line of lot 18 curving in to approximately 10 Feet off the shore line at the middle of lot 19, to pick up the existing deep water. He propose depositing the fill in a natural galley running through lot 18 as well as filling in erosion around existing Jetties at the end of the Beach. See copy of survey attached. Our share of the cost of the dredging would be borne by various people affected along Fisherman's Beach. Those in favor of the proposed dredging include: Thomas Samuels Fmo Herbert Tighe Richard Costa Kenneth Murray Wilbur Ba!d~in~ Sr. Wilbur Baldwin, Jr. Robert Goehler Howard Bigg Stanley Gould ~rs. Hilliam Power Francis Perrone and, John O'Neill, provided the proposed dredging does not affect the existing channel and beach behind his lot Sincerely, June 6, 1969 LITTLE, PE.
