Dear Mr. Endemann:
As per our discussion and field inspection of the erosion problem you are
experiencing at your Marina in Saw Mill Creek, I would reeommend the following
course of aetion:
In March, extend the bulkhead into the bank to prevent erosion behind the
bulkhead.
In May, plant Spartins alterniflora (Smooth Cordgrass) along the toe of the
slope, below the mean high tide line. Once established this vegetation will
act as a shock absorber to disipate wave energy and prevent erosion of the
toe of the slope. Follow the instructions in the enclosed planting guide.
Plant Spartina patens (Saltmeadow Cordgrass) or Amophilia breviligutata
(Cape American Beachgrass) above the mean high tide line. Follow the planting
instructions specified on the plant sheets.
Conservation Plant Sheet - 70 provides details of the planting scheme to be
achieved.
The bank itself is presently well stabilized and should not be disturbed.
Once the Spartina is established it should eliminate any future erosion.
If you have any questions or I can be of further assistance feel free to
contact me.
Sincerely,
Allan S. Connell
