Ward, Chairman ~% Suffolk County Department .of Planning~s Inquiry in Regard to SCTM# 1000-87-5-23.9, Southold DATE: June 27, 1996 EarLier this week Planning Staff received an inquiry from the Suffolk County Department of Planning in regard to the above mentioned parcel, the location of which can be seen on the next page. The County has obtained the parcel due~o a tax Lien. The adjacent owner, the Cove at Southo[d Condominiums, has expressed interest in purchasing the property. However, as noted in the attached letter to the Suffolk CoUnty Division of Reai Estate, Stephen Jones, the County Planning Director, objects to the sale of the parcel to the Cove. Mr. Jones has recommended that the parcel, which is underwater land that is a canal providing water access to four privately owned parcels as well as to the Cove, be offered to the Town of Southold. The Planning Board reviewed the inquiry at the June 26, 1996, work session. The Planning Board does not feel that it is in the best interest of the Town to obtain the parcel since it is not adjacent to a Town road or a Town owned parcel. The Board questions the value of acquiring land which would require pubLic funds to maintain yet provides no public benefits. However, before responding to the County's inquiry, I would Like to know the Town Board's opinion. enc!. cc: Town Trustees r"%UFFOLk E0. PLAr..i~'.i!
