Mrs. Knox had installed a Kitchen in the front apartment for herself when she settled in Orient in the 20's. The rear kitchen in the back apartment was originally there from when the White Shingles was operated as her restaurant. The west kitchen was there since at least 1950 when Judy Hall had her gift shop and lived there year around with Lou Grow. A small kitchen also existed in the upstairs apartment since, I can remember, for Mrs. Robinson, a very close friend of Mrs. Knox. My memory goes back to 1949 when I was seven. Our family had lived in the back apartment during the summer months since 1942. There were no additions to the house since that time. Horton, the undersigned, being duly sworn and deposed, state that I have resided at 21335 Main Road (Route 25), Orient, New York 11957 since June 1962. This residence is immediately adjacent to and East of the prope~zy of Knox/Cockefill/Carbonne, known locally as the "White Shin~les", a residence and "tea shop" of the 1930s and early 1940s nm by Hortense Knox. I have been familiar with this property (Whil~ Shingles) since the 1940s when I delivered Sunday papers to Mrs. Knox for several years. I have been through the house many times and my personal family and I lived there for three months in 1976 following a fire at our next door residence. During the period of ownership by Adrian Cookerill and family this house contained at least four usable kitchens, three downstairs and one on the second floor; I believe there was an additional kitchen in earlier years (tea shop days). The four kitchens at one time or another over the years were areas where I, on occasion, drank or dined. I believe the ir, lent is to use only three of these kitchens in the future but I know there is long team histoxy of use of all the kitchens in the past and I am wimess to the fact.
