Upon receipt of an application for a Pre-Existing
Certificate of Occupancy, I made an inspection of this
one-story wood framed building. I was admitted to
building by John Bagshew who accompanied me during
this inspection that began at approximately 2:00 P.M.
The building is constructed on a cement block founda-
tion and contains a bathroom, kitchen, living room used
for sleeping, garage and work shop. Foundation provides
a partial cellar with access from interior of building
only.
The following violations of the Housing Code, Chapter
52, Code of the Town of Southold, New York, were fodnd:
Heat - no central heating system or means of furnishing
heat to building, Article V, Section 52-53 A 1.
Habitable space - no rooms provided for sleeping as
required for dwelling unit, Article I, Section 52-16
(definition - Dwelling Unit) and Article II, Section
52-24 D 2.
Gas cooking range - no shut off valve at unit, Article
V, Section 52-52 B 2.
Refrigeration - no refrigeration equipment for food
storage, Article V, Section 52-57 A 2.
Electrical - cellar, service panel box requires cover
replacement, junction box for electric hot water con-
nection requires cover, open junction box on cellar
stair header, Article V, Section 52-56 A 1.
Cellar stair - tread width is 7-1/4" - stair is exces-
sively steep, open side requires hand rail, Article II,
Section 52-27 A, B.
Exit - no steps provided from interior of building to
gr-~e level, Article II, Section 52-28 A.

APPLICATION FOR CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY
Instructions
A. This application must be filled in typewriter OR ink, and submitted in triplicate to the Building
Inspector with the following; for new buildings or new use:
1. Final survey of property with accurate location of all buildings, property lines, streets, and
unusual natural or topographic features.
2. Final approval of Health Dept. of water supply and sewerage disposal--(S-9 form or equal).
3. Approval of electrical installation from Board of Fire Underwriters.
4. Commercial buildings, Industrial buildings, Multiple Residences and similar buildings and
installations, a certificate of Code compliance from the Architect or Engineer responsible for
the building.
5. Submit Planning Board approval of completed site plan requirements where applicable.
B. For existing buildings (prior to April 1957), Non-conforming uses, or buildings and "pre-existing"
land uses:
1. Accurate survey o~ property showing all property lines, streets, buildings and unusual natural
or topographic features.
2. Sworn statement of owner or previous owner os to use, occupancy and condition of buildings.
3. Date of any housing code or safety inspection of buildings or premJees, or other pertinent In-
formation required to prepare a certificate.
