Commissioner Harper continued a discussion regarding the above-referenced property.
He has contacted Habitat for Humanity to request matching funds of approximately
$19,000 to be used in conjunction with a conditional grant from the Community
Development Corporation of Long Island. To date, Habitat has not responded to his
repeated emails.
Update on award designations
Chairman Garretson discussed potential recipients of an award from the Historic
Preservation Commission. Commissioner Parker pointed out that the Commission has
reached this point before, but has never proceeded beyond it. A discussion followed on
the necessary steps to bring the idea to fruition.
• Lighthouses
Four letters were sent out to lighthouse owners inviting them to landmark their properties.
The lighthouses are Bug Light, North Dumpling, Little Gull, and Race Rock.
Administrative Assistant Rallis will update the Commission at the August Meeting.
Historic Preservation Week
•
Commissioner Grathwohl discussed the proposed workshops to be held in September at
Brecknock Hall. The possibility of doing several presentations in one day as opposed to
three days was also considered.
SPLIA Files
•
From a Memorandum dated July 15, 2015:
Administrative Assistant Rallis contacted SPLIA in order to obtain the original
designation files of Southold Town historic properties. The copies used for the Town’s
mapping initiative were difficult to read. It was discovered that SPLIA did not have the
original files and that their files were as difficult to read as ours. Mr. Rallis will contact
the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation to see if more legible files
are available and update the Commission at the August meeting.
