HomeMy WebLinkAboutMPD-08/21/2003 Minutes of the monthly meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the Mattituck Park District held on August 21, 2003, at the Park District office at 12900 Main Road, Mattituck,New York, with Commissioners Gerard Goehringer,Chairman,Jerome Zuhoski, and Walter Sabat,together with John Cushman, Treasurer, Madeline Haas, Secretary, Gail Faircloth, Gate Guard Attendant, Eric Bressler, Attorney for the Park District,Alex Martin,Park Maintenance Laborer present. Absent: James Cox, Sr.,Labor Crew Chief. At 7:00 P.M. Chairman Gerard Goehringer, swore in the Inspectors of Election, Gail Faircloth and Barbara Goehringer, for the vote on the proposed budget for 2004 and for the vote of the resident taxpayers asking for their permission to sell the Mattituck Park District building at 12900 Main Road, Mattituck,NY. Chairman Goehringer opened the meeting by reporting the writing of a letter addressed to Mr. Steven Techet,Mr. Patrick Higgins and Ms. Helen Bicking,all of Old Salt Road, Mattituck,NY in response to a letter received from them listing their complaints about the Veteran's Memorial Park site. Mr. Goehringer in his letter covered the various subjects and invited the community of Salt Lake Village to attend the regular Park meeting on September 2003 at 7:00 p.m. or Mr Goehringer would like to schedule a meeting of mutual convenience before the end of the summer. Mr. Goehringer and Mr. Zuhoski and Gail Faircloth met with the Salt Lake Village Community on August 19.2003 to discuss the items the people had in the letter of July 21,2003, and after explanations of why these problems were not tended to prior to this time, were due to the fact that the new construction was about to take place and then things would fall into place. After a discussion, the people seemed to be satisfied. Attached is a copy of names of those people who attended the meeting. The police were called to Veteran's Park regarding same. Police came and the complaint was unfounded. Gail Faircloth agreed to close the gates at Veteran's Park each night at 9:00 P.M. A complaint from a neighbor on the west side the Veteran's Park about the fence along the Marlene walkway. Mr. Goehringers suggested erecting a chain line fence in that area. Commissioners reported they had hired Ginny McCaffery as a laborer for$7.50 per hour commencing August 11,2003 until school opens in September. She is a school bus driver. Jim Cox left a list of items that needed attention. He stated that the John Deere is out of service. He suggested if a new mower was not to be had next year, a new deck should be put on the John Deere because the mower is in good shape except for the deck. No more welding it. Also some thought has to be given to the Love Lane bulkhead. He also reported that he needs a anew trailer to haul the Toro or tractor. There is trouble with loading the Toro on the trailer we have. Mr. Deegan and Dan Ross stopped in to the meeting room after voting to ask about the lighting situation at Aldrich lane. They were told that the ligthting system is estimated to cost$30,000.00 to be updated—the service has be to redone from the pole and wires buried. Also a new fuse box installed. Alex Martin reported the John Deere needs work. Jerry Zuhoski is going to talk to Mr. Baker about welding the deck.. Alex also said the steering seems to be loose and they need blades for the Toro. Alex needs a weed wacker or trimmer of some kind to handle the heavier trimming work. Jerry Zuhoski told him to stop at Northeastern Equipment to see about a gas weed wacker and get a figure. Also Alex stated he was hired full time(40 hours a week). He was told then that he was appointed to a 40 hour a week position as laborer. On motion of Gerard Goehringer, seconded by Jerry Zuhoski and carried Russell Nine has been hired for 25 hours per week at $8.00 per hour as of August 1,2003 to open and close the Lodge for the scheduled appointments. No further business to come before the meeting, on motion of Walter Sabat, seconded by Jerry Zuhoski,and carried,the meeting was adjourned. Respectfully submitted, Madeline S.
