Landmark Preservation Commission Minutes

Southold Town Hall Annex Conference Room
Attendees:
James Grathwohl, Donald Feiler, Gary Parker, James Garretson, Robert Harper, Doug
Constant, Anne Surchin, and Damon Rallis.
Call to Order & Approval of Minutes:
Meeting was called to order and minutes from the July 16, 2013 meeting passed unanimously.
Chairman’s Comments:
James Grathwohl announced that he had submitted the proposed 2014 LPC budget to the
Supervisor’s office in the amount of $7,250, which is the same figure as last year. He also
discussed the presentation that he and Richard Wines (Riverhead LPC) made to the town board
regarding a proposed historic corridor within the town of Southold.
Other Business:
Commissioners discussed new ways to inform the public about the LPC, including the possibility
of updating existing pamphlets, and a new registry of historic structures similar to one primted in
1996.
Doug Constant gave commissioners an update on the Ben Franklin mile marker project. Jim
noted that a high school student was interested in helping as part of his Eagle Scout project. Doug
noted that Zack Studenroth, of the Cutchogue New Suffolk Historical Council was also interested
in helping with the project.
Chairman Grathwohl announced that a new committee to save Sacred Heart would be meeting on

September 18 at the Cutchogue library and he invited all commissioners to attend.
New Business:
Anne Surchin revisited the idea of an education initiative through better brochures and marketing
materials and possibly a Southold Town Landmarks house tour.
Next Meeting: October 15, 2013 at 3 p.m. in the Town Hall Annex
