Call to Order & Approval of Minutes:  Meeting was called to order and minutes from the March 19, 2013 meeting passed unanimously. Chairman’s Comments:  James Grathwohl said that he recognized the growing need to get the Landmark’s Preservation Commission back into the public eye and discussed the possibility of working with local media to achieve this goal. Doug Constant suggested taking a picture of the Custom House, as it looks now and publishing it along with the print of the house as it originally looked, as a way to express the need for preservation in Southold Town. Chairman Grathwohl noted that before a decision was made, some serious thought had to be put into a plan of action. Commissioner Constant suggested bringing Supervisor Russell into the discussion because what happened to the Custom House was a serious matter. Commissioners also noted that Sacred Heart Church, in Cutchogue, should also be part of the plan. Commissioner Surchin discussed delay of demolition legislation that had been passed in Southampton, as well as using community preservation fund monies for historic preservation. Although he said that before and after photos could be effective, Commissioner Feiler suggested something more positive, like a column fashioned after Paul Stoutenburgh’s “Focus on Nature.” Chairman Grathwohl suggested forming a committee to work on the plan. Commissioner Surchin and Commissioner Garretson agreed to co-chair the committee and come up with a plan of action.
