Call to Order & Approval of Minutes:  The meeting was called to order and the minutes from the September 20, 2011 meeting passed unanimously. Old Business:  Damon gave the commissioners an update on the proposed hiring of an intern to update the town’s SPLIA list. He explained that he was still awaiting word from the town’s accounting office regarding the status of civil service approval.  Regarding the “awards program,” Damon said that he had not yet had a chance to draft the language specific to the award winners but assured commissioners that it would be ready by the next LPC meeting. New Business:  Damon presented commissioners with an application that was made to the building department for roof repairs at 2595 Village Lane, Orient. Based on the plans submitted to the building department, the commissioners agreed that the project was exempt from review.  James Grathwohl introduced his nominee for the commission seat recently vacated by Barbara Schnitzler. Gary Parker, of East Marion, was introduced to commission members and after giving a brief history of his background and a discussion among commissioners, those in attendance voted unanimously to recommend the appointment of Mr. Parker, effective November 1, 2011. Public Hearings:  Rose (145 King Street, Orient): A public hearing was held for additions and alterations to an existing single family dwelling at 145 King Street (Rose), in Orient. Mr. Rose and his architect, Nancy Steelman, made a presentation to the LPC outlining the proposed work under this application. Minutes from this meeting were recorded and are on file at the Southold Town Building Department. Following the close of the public hearing, the commissioners directed Damon to gather more specific information from the architect regarding the doors, windows and lattice being proposed. Jim Grathwohl made a motion to approve the project, as applied for, pending approval of the windows, doors and lattice work. The motion was carried unanimously.  Nealz (195 Village Lane, Orient): A public hearing was held for additions and alterations to an existing single family dwelling at 195 Village Lane (Nealz), in Orient. The applicant’s contractor was on hand but the applicant’s architect was not at the hearing to make his presentation. The hearing was held open. Town of Southold Landmark Preservation Commission Minutes Continued Public Hearing: Nealz 2:00 p.m., October 21, 2011 Town Hall Annex Executive Board Room  Nealz (195 Village Lane, Orient): Blake Goble, architect for the Nealz project, made a presentation to the commission regarding this project. Minutes from this meeting were recorded and are on file at the Southold Town Building Department. Following the close of the public hearing, the commissioners directed Damon to request an “alternate plan” from Mr. Goble reflecting the following: “A proposed new ridge line to be vertically above the existing keeping the same slopes on both dormers and increasing the height on the North dormer (Bath Room), thus creating a raised roof with two dormers exactly above the existing roof.” Next Meeting: November 15, 2011 at 3 p.m. in the Town Hall Annex
