HomeMy WebLinkAbout04/19/2011 Southold Town Landmarks Preservation Commission April 2011 Meeting Minutes Date/Time: April 19, 2011, 3:00 PM Location: Conference Room, Town Hall Annex, Southold, NY Attendees: Jim Grathwohl, Jamie Garretson, Larry Jungblut, Doug Constant, and Barbara Schnitzler, Damon Rallis. No minutes were approved as there was no quorum at the January, February or March meetings. Chairman’s Comments:  Jim presented the commission with a draft of the LPC’s 2010 Accomplishments, as well as the LPC’s Goals and Objectives for 2011. Old Business:  Damon reported no updates regarding the Rose application at 145 King Street, Orient.  Damon reported no updates regarding the Peyton-Folwer application at 195 Village Lane, Orient.  Jim announced that the town board had approved funding for a summer intern to update the existing SPLIA list. He suggested the creation of a sub-committee to update the list for the promotion of additions to the existing Landmark roster, based on the intern’s findings. Jamie agreed to chair that sub-committee. His first task will be to create a job description for the intern. New Business:  Damon announced that an administrative permit had been issued for the Constant application for replacement of a roof at 555 his house on Village Lane in Orient.  Damon is still working on minor revisions (clarifications) to the LPC handbook regarding items requiring administrative permits and items requiring no action by the commission.  Commissioners reviewed an application for 28080 Main Road in Cutchogue, formerly the Betts Hotel, to be added to the Landmark roster. The property is currently on the SPLIA list. th Commissioners will meet at the property at 2:00 p.m. on May 17, 2011.  Commissioners discussed a letter from David R. Schoenhaar, a prospective buyer of the Bender house, 53315 Route 25, Southold, which is on the Landmark roster, regarding his wish to develop the property. Damon will send a letter outlining the Landmark law as it relates to demolition and construction on landmark properties.  Damon announced that the building department had declared the General Wayne Inn, located in Southold, unsafe and that demotion of the building is imminent.  Jim announced that he would step down as chairperson immediately, but would stay on as a commissioner. Next Meeting: May 17, 2011 at 2 p.m. at 28080 Main Road in Cutchogue, followed by the regular meeting at 3 p.m. in the Town Hall Annex.
