HomeMy WebLinkAbout05/17/2011 Southold Town Landmarks Preservation Commission May 2011 Meeting Minutes Date/Time: May 17, 2011, 3:00 PM Location: Conference Room, Town Hall Annex, Southold, NY Attendees: Jamie Garretson, Larry Jungblut, Mel Phaff, Barbara Schnitzler, and Damon Rallis. Jamie Garretson stood in as chairman in Jim Grathwohl’s absence. The April, 2011meeting minutes were approved unanimously. Chairman’s Comments:  An email from the Chairman was read for the record outlining tasks to be addressed in the next few months during his absence, including: Finding a replacement for Ron Rossi who resigned from the commission in April. o Damon taking on a more administrative role in Jim Grathwohl’s absence. o Hiring a summer intern to update the SPLIA list. o Old Business:  The commission reviewed new plans for the Peyton-Folwer application at 195 Village Lane, Orient. Damon agreed to contact Blake Gobal, architect, to request photo renderings.  Following a site visit to the former Bett’s Hotel, at 28080 Main Road in Cutchogue, the commission decided not to recommend the property for landmark status. Damon agreed to investigate the next step in the application process.  Commissioners agreed to bring criteria for awards to the next LPC meeting.  Commissioners discussed possible candidates for a summer intern and agreed that the town would most likely have to advertise the position. Damon agreed to contact Toni Booth for suggestions. Jamie Garretson is working on a job description, required before advertising.  Damon shared a letter he sent, on behalf of the commission, to David R. Schoenhaar, regarding the Bender house, 53315 Route 25, Southold. New Business:  Commissioners discussed possible candidates to fill the LPC vacancy left by Ron Rossi. Damon agreed to contact Linda Cooper to place an advertisement in the newspaper.  Damon said he is still working on minor revisions (clarifications) to the LPC handbook.  Commissioners discussed whether or not there should be a requirement for commissioners to attend a certain number of meetings in order to maintain their position. Damon agreed to discuss the issue with the town attorney.  Damon agreed to contact Ron to get an update on the status of the Ben Franklin markers so that the commission could pick up where he left off. Next Meeting: June 21, 2011 at 3 p.m. in the Town Hall Annex.
