HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/21/2011 Southold Town Landmarks Preservation Commission June 2011 Meeting Minutes Date/Time: June 21, 2011, 3:00 PM Location: Conference Room, Town Hall Annex, Southold, NY Attendees: Jamie Garretson, Doug Constant, Mel Phaff, Barbara Schnitzler, and Damon Rallis. Jamie Garretson stood in as chairman in Jim Grathwohl’s absence. The May, 2011meeting minutes were approved unanimously. Old Business:  The commission discussed proposed alterations to Peyton-Fowler-Nealz (Blake Goble) house in Orient. Damon said he would have the requested renderings by the next meeting.  Damon explained that an ad was being placed in the paper for candidates for the unexpired term of Ron Rossi who recently resigned.  The commission discussed the wording of a letter to the property owner of 28080 Main Road (SW corner of New Suffolk Rd. and Route 25) in Cutchogue village denying its addition to the Landmark roster. Damon agreed to draft a letter for the commission’s review at the next meeting.  The commission discussed criteria for upcoming awards: Business property: Creative adaptation o Residential property: Accurate renovation and restoration o Commissioners agreed that Peconic Landing was a fine example for a business property and the Wickham project was a fine example of a residential property.  Commissioners discussed the hiring of an intern to update the Landmark roster and agreed to continue the search for possible candidates. New Business:  Damon discussed a proposed Eagle Scout project at Poquatuck Hall to rebuild a handicap ramp. Commissioners agreed that no synthetic materials would be allowed and Damon said he would contact the project manager to discuss allowable materials and the application process.  Commissioners reviewed a new application for construction at 850 Orchard Street, Orient. Since no work will be visible from the road, the commissioners agreed that the project was out of their jurisdiction.  Commissioners discussed the possibility of creating a code of conduct for Landmark members and Damon agreed to get examples from the town attorney’s office.
