APPROVED MINUTES
Date: October 19, 2010
Time: 3:00 PM
Location: Conference Room, Town Hall Annex, Southold, NY
Attendees: Jim Grathwohl, Jamie Garretson, Larry Jungblut, Doug Constant, Ron Rossi,
Barbara Schnitzler, and Mel Phaff. Damon Rallis also attended.
The September minutes were approved with minor changes.
Chairman’s Comments –
Jim thanked Mel Phaff for acting as chairperson in his absence at the September 21, 2010 meeting.
Old Business –
The commissioners discussed the “pre-submission conference” application, specifically changes
made by the Southold Town Attorney’s office, as well as the way to handle pre-submission
conferences in the future.
Jamie Garretson suggested that the minutes of every pre-submission conference be submitted to
the Southold Town Attorney’s office for review and Ron Rossi further suggested taping all of the
conferences. Damon agreed to look into both of these issues.
It was also agreed to change the application to allow for a commission review of the pre-submission
application prior to meeting with the property owner or their representative.
The commissioners discussed the pre-submission conference involving the Rose property, that
occurred at the previous meeting and brought Damon and those commissioners that were not in
attendance up to speed on the proposed project.
Jamie Garretson suggested revisiting the Southold Town Landmark Preservation Commission’s
proposed “awards program.”
New Business –
Jim Grathwohl discussed the possibility of having a representative from the Suffolk County
Landmarks Commission to discuss the commission’s policies and procedures.
