GENERAL REFERENCES

§ 36-1. Issuance of fire permits; agreement with Fire
District.
A. The Town Board of the Town of Southold is hereby
authorized to enter into an agreement with the Board of
Commissioners of any fire district now or hereafter
established in said town to provide for the issuance of
• fire permits for the burning of grass, leaves, brush,
rubbish, refuse, buildings or other materials in the fire
district in which issued.
B. Such agreement shall provide standards or conditions for
the issuance of such permits, including but not limited to
specification of the exact location of the fire for which the
permit is sought and prohibition of fires on streets,

highways, sidewalks and other public places where
deemed necessary.
C. Violation of the conditions attached to any permit issued
pursuant to said agreement shall be deemed an offense
againstthis chapter and shall be punished as such.'
§ 36-2. Grass fires; permits. •
No person shall set fire to, burn or ignite or cause the firing,
burning or ignition of any grass plot or field or any brush on any
grass plot or field or any pile of refuse, within the town without
first obtaining a burning permit from the Chief of the Fire De-
partment [or one (1) of his assistants] of the fire district where
the burning is to take place, as provided in § 36-1 above.
§ 36-3. Supervision of fires.
Any fire lawfully started shall be constantly attended and
supervised by an adult and extinguished by 8:00 p.m. No fires
shall be started before sunrise.
§ 36-4. Exclusions.
This chapter shall not apply to any territory included within
the limits of the Incorporated Village of Greenport.
§ 36-5. Penalties for offenses.
Any person committing an offense against any provision of
this chapter shall, upon conviction thereof, be guilty of a
violation punishable by a fine not exceeding two hundred fifty •
dollars ($250.) or by imprisonment for a term not exceeding
fifteen (15) days, or by both such fine and imprisonment. The

continuation of an offense against the provisions of this chapter
shall constitute, for each day the offense is continued, a
separate and distinct offense hereunder.
