HISTORICAL AND ARCHITECTURAL IMPORTANCE: Original access to the cellar was from within the house by stone steps, which have since been walled up. Access to the cellar is now from outside, through passageway dug through crawlspace under the extension of the original structure. Door which used to lead to the cellar has HL hinge and rosehead nails. Little to indicate that the house, ,though very sturdy construction, was built before 1825 (although A Summary of History, Map 3 and Southold Town Bicentennial Map give date of construction as c. 1775). 21.
