This former life saving station faces Long Island Sound on
a high bluff, surrounded by a low density residential sec
tion to the east, and a mix of open and wooded land to the
south and west. Several newer residences 1ine Rocky pt.• Rd.
to the south. ,

Irregularly shaped 2.story shingled building with jerkin~
head gable roof. Tall 4 story watch tower at NW corner;
(neg: KK II-19). Shed roof porch on north facade. 6/6 win
dows. Garrison overhang near tower top. Inyerior wood •
Work intact, especially main stair assembly.

"In operation before Rocky Pt. Rd. ' was laid, this -life
saving station is a ,rare survivor, once one of manY 'sim";'
iliar buildings loc~ted along the L~I. shb~es to rescue
'and house shipwreck' victims. 'The integrity of the build
ing and its surrou:ndings is excellent. Several "Liberty
Shacks", built by Coast Guardsmen of salvaged lumber, _
remain. Board and batten boat shed moved to rear of prop
