4. Current Status of Historic Building(s) or Place(s): -Extant
5. Evidence of Structural Modifications (if any): -None, Intact
6. Notes:
-Exquisite example of a Front-Gabled roof type of the Greek Revival
architectural tradition; all diagnostic features (e.g., frieze windows) are
extant and intact. Property slightly obstructed from public road by hedges.
Original survey form notes this part of Cutchogue as being called “Blubber
Row,” named so for the number of retired ship captains in area. Also plaque
on house mentions colonial and nineteenth century house foundations are nearby
or underlie the Buckingham House; thus this property may also have the
potential for the presence of subsurface archaeological deposits and pre-1845
architectural features.
