Notes: -Large area is relatively undeveloped, and it is likely that archaeological deposits associated with the historic Five Wigwams settlement of the Corchaug Indians are extant subsurface. S.P.L.I.A. survey forms for both GR-3 and GR-4 note that neighboring land owners have recovered numerous Native American artifacts on their property like stone projectile points and axes. This location is one of many unique early Colonial sites where Corchaug Indians were forcefully relocated to facilitate the acquisition of lands on the North Fork (see also SLPC Landmark PE-15). As is the case at Five Wigwams, after a time, the Corchaug were again forcefully removed to another location, apparently when Coopers discovered high quality hickory for barrel- making in the vicinity.
