Aaaoalatea As a follow-up to my letter of October 15, 2001, which provided a conceptual

Rudolph F. Cannavale enclosed are design drawings for review and approval.
Joseph A. Fiorafiso, P.E.
David S. Glass, P.E. The main change from the conceptual plan is that drainage pipe will no longer run

liamMichael Neuberger, P.E. waste'
Richard P. Russell, P.E.
Charles J. Wachsmuth, P.E. We are in the process of preparing the details for the catch basins, manholes and
Kenneth P. Wenz, Jr., CPG head wall, and redesign of Recharge Basin #3 to accommodate additional flow.
These drawings will be provided to you when they are complete. The catch
basins will be waterproofed since they are over (Catch Basin #1) and adjacent to
(Catch Basin #2) waste.
Since we would like to install this drainage system as soon as possible, we would
appreciate your comments/approval by mid-February.

Re: Southold Landfill Closure
D&B No. 1314
Dear Mr. Terry:
We have reviewed your letter dated January 24, 2002, requesting that the
geocomposite maximum exposure period be extended from the contract required
period of 14 days to 30 days based on the recommendation of the manufacturer
(Engineered Synthetic Products, Inc.).
Although the' manufacturer's letter refers to no "noticeable" degradation, to
confirm: this -=we need to review the manufacturer's data on degradation of
properties with time.
Also, as discussed, if we find the extension of time acceptable, we will require a
statement from both the manufacturer and Terry Contracting & Materials, that the
increased' exposure period will not affect the warrantee of the material or the
overall closure project.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me. -

D&B No. 1314
Dear Mr. Terry:
At the January 17, 2002, meeting, in reviewing costs for compost facility
construction, you indicated that approximately 110,000 cy of sand is to be
screened at $3.65/cy.
As stated 'iri rry letter to you dated December 31, 2001, unscreened sand shall be
used as final 6 -inch subgrade layer on the eastern portion of the landfill. You are
responsible for ensuring that 20,000 cubic yards of unscreened sand remains from
development of the 17 -acre parcel unless directed otherwise by the Town. There
shall be no payment for screening of sand which results in less than 20,000 cubic
yards of unscreened sand remaining on the 17 -acre parcel.
If you have any questions, please call me.

Dear Mr. Terry:
Senior Associates
Anthony O. Conetta, P.E.
We have reviewed Chenango Contracting, Inc., s request, dated January 17, 2002,
Dennis F. Koehler, P.E.
Joseph H. Marturano to stitch the loose edge of the geotextile around the exposed edge of the
Kenneth J. Pritchard, P.E. geocomposite as it terminates outside the storm water channels, and approve this
Theodore S. Pytlar, Jr. method provided the stitch is a double thread lock stitch, Type 401, with a flat or
Brian M. Veith, P.E. prayer seam.
Associates Since the stitching method is faster than the heat seam geotextile wrap as
Garrett M. Byrnes, P.E. specified in the Contract Documents, the Town of Southold expects a credit based
Rudolph F. Cannavale
on this change. Please provide me with the amount of the credit.

Brian M. Veith, P.E.
We have reviewed your letter dated January 11, 2002, requesting additional
payment associated with redesign of the drainage system along the southwestern
Associates
boundary of the landfill.
Garrett M. Byrnes, P.E.
Rudolph F. Cannavale
Please be aware that while additional pipe and an additional manhole are required
Joseph A. Fioraliso, P.E.
as a result of the redesign, the depth of excavation and placement of the pipe is
David S. Glass, P.E.
substantially less (average of 6 feet over a distance of 320 feet) and depths of the
Gerald Gould, CPG
manholes are less (manhole #1 is 6 feet less and manhole #2 is 1.5 feet less) as
William D. Merklin, RE.
Mikael Neuberger P.E.
compared to the original design. Please provide a credit (with computation) for
Richard P. Russell, P.E.
the reduction in the depth of the drainage system. Also, your price of $4,125 for
Charles J. Wachsmuth, P.E.
the additional manhole appears high, as compared to the costs provided to us for
Kenneth P. Wenz, Jr, CPG
construction of the new drainage system along the eastern boundary of the landfill
which was $2,500 for a 15 -foot (average) manhole.
Also based on your Schedule of Values, the average cost for an 18 -foot (average)
6 -foot diameter manhole is $3,400 while the requested increase in cost of $4,125
is for a 9 -foot, 4 -foot diameter manhole. Therefore, it appears that the cost for the
additional manhole should not be greater than $2,000.
