Recent Test Pit results and A.)nroach to Address Waste Beyond Current Limits Tom Maher indicated that the test pits dug on August 21, 2001, and interpreted by Jim Mulligan, show approximately 4,000 cu. yds. of waste beyond the currently staked limit of waste on the northern portion of the east half of the landfill. Tom wants to remove this waste, relandfill it, fill same area with clean material and thus leave the limit of waste where it presently is .staked. As for the linger of waste extending under the gas venting material stockpile, ' Dave Zuhoski believes that it does not extend very. far under the stockpile. Carl Fritz brought up the issue of possible soil contamination under the waste and Tom Maher indicated he would discuss this with Igor Sikiric when he returns from vacation. All agreed to call this new waste area Waste Excavation Area No. 3. It also was agreed that' it would be left to Bob 'ferry as to when this waste would be relandfilled. 101314/TO$24101(RO 1) 1 .AUG -29-01 10:32 FROM: II7:5163648E75 PAGE 3/5 As for the waste discovered by test pit on the south end of the east half of the landfill, near the proposed C&D holding area, Tom Maher questioned the cost-effectiveness of removing the small amount fourid. Carl Fritz thought it should be removed or capped, but suggested that Tom discuss this with Tony Cava to reach resolution. Torn said he ovill send a letter to Tony -with an approach to the problem. Bob Terry asked if D&B still is working on the redesign of the Swale in this satne area and Tom Maher said it will be completed shortly. 2. Permanent Road Over Landfill to 17 -Acre Site Jim Bunchuck said he expects to get firm direction from the Town Board on whether to go ahead with this road by Tuesday, August 28, 2001, Bob Terry agreed to give Jinn a cost estimate for a 30 -fool wide road by Monday, August 27, in time for the meeting Jim will have with the Town Board. 3. Power to the Engineer's and Contractor's Trailers Bob Terry has been in. contact with LIPA and LIPA has made a Feld. inspection, but no firm date given on the actual hook-up. (Note: Bob Terry was informed by LIPA shortly after thu; progress meeting that the hook-up would occur that day, August 23.) 4. Status of 17 -Acre Loam H2M is to inform Jim Bunctuck of how much loam will be used to construct the berm on the 17 -acre parcel. ']Com. Mahcr requested that loam be used only for daily cover, as mix for wood chips and as fill for Waste Excavation Area No. 1. No loam on landfill otherwise. Bob Terry inquired as to what the calculated cut volume was for the regrading in the northeast portion of the borrow pit which no longer will be done. Dave Glass remembered it to be about 30,000 cu.yds. -G I314r1'0$24101(ROF) 2 .AUG -29-01 10-33 FROM e >. Waste Excavation Area No. 1 ID:51'63848675 PAGE 4/5 Jim Bunchuck has notified the homeowners adjacent to this arca that work. is commencing- Waste is to be excavated on the homeo Amors' side of the fence if necessary. Loam could be used as fill after the waste excavation since this is outside the "exclusion area. 6. Water for Trust. Control on 17 -Acre Parcel Bob Teary has obtained a price to rent a second water tank as an option. He also is awaiting response from Suffolk County Water Authority as a second option. Bob is hoping that if the weather cooperates, he may not need additional dust control when loam excavation resumes on the parcel. 7. Drums on To -of Berm in Borrow 1PitlPit Tom Maher asked if these drums had been removed. They have not. Dave Zuhoski indicated the Town personnel would remove them. 9. Use of Loam for Final Subgrade Cover Tom Maher wanted to explore this possibility. Bob Terry indicated that he feels he is not contractually responsible for meeting the compaction requirement in the specifications if 10am is used for this purpose, and that loam could be a major problem to work on once it becomes wet. Tom Maher then indicated that 6 inches of sand be used rather than loam. 10. Chane Order A new change order (No. 2) was drafted by D&B for review by Jim Bunchuck. This change order is to cover the test holes recently excavated. Bob Terry indicated that he will need another change order to cover Handling of the C&1] which has been accepted at the landfill after the Initial Survey was completed. 01314/T0824 10 I(RO 1) AUG -29-01 10:34 FROM: 11. borrow Pit Grading ID=5163648675 PAGE 5/5 Tom Maher indicated that loam should be used for regrading in the Borrow Pit area. Jamie Richter has asked if the soil could be landfilled, Bob Temy agreed to review the site and develop a cost proposal to excavate, haul and place the soil on the Iandfill. It is estimated that 6,500 ou.yds. of contaminated soil is involved. 13. Other Items + Agreed that all sand used at the landfill will come from the 17 -acre parcel rather than the borrow pit. + Bob Terry said the permanent chain link fencing is on hold until the Town resolves issues of Corraxini encroachment on Town property. + Agreed that goal for subgrade fill compaction is maximum 2 -inch deflection. tr1314M82a101(W)1) 4
