HomeMy WebLinkAbout04/2015 May 11, 2015 To: Town Board Fr: Phillip Beltz Re: APRIL 2015 SUMMARY REPORT-SPECIAL PROJECTS COORDINATOR Housing:  Facilitated Housing Advisory Commission (HAC) meeting and disseminated minutes.  Meeting with Dan Sarnowski (HAC) to discuss future initiatives.  Discussion with Initiative for the Community Land Trust of Southold regarding hook-up to Greenport sewer and status of fundraising to purchase property.  Processed four CPF tax exemptions in April.  Meeting with resident seeking affordable rental apartment.  Facilitating volunteer day for HAC at Habitat site in Orient.  Amended Housing Registry. Youth Bureau:  Facilitated Youth Bureau Board meeting and disseminated minutes.  With Family Service League, meeting with Town Board re development of training opportunities to be sponsored by Youth Bureau including crisis intervention and debriefing.  Facilitated “Job Corps” workshop with attendance of 5 residents.  Facilitated Job Fair, six employers attended with 23 participants (primarily youth) seeking employment.  Meeting with Bob Duffin, Youth Bureau member re Volunteer forum.  Facilitated Volunteer Forum, fourteen service organizations attended with 16 participants seeking volunteer opportunities.  Commenced with the coordination of SC Department of Labor Summer Youth Employment program. To date, Public Works, Town Clerk and Highway requested students.  Meeting of East End Partnership for Youth (EEPY.)  Meeting with Dr. Carolyn Peabody, Stony Brook University, to finalize the workshop on “mapping community assets.”  With Southampton Youth Bureau director, meeting at Stony Brook Southampton campus to plan logistics for mapping conference.  Attended Mapping conference at Stony Brook.  Meeting with Mattituck High School students regarding their assessment of East End Youth Leadership summit held in fall 2014.  Meeting with Youth Advisory Council (YAC) members to finalize Earth Day Initiatives and prepare for Town Board discussion.  Facilitated YAC meeting with Town Board to discuss long term and short term environmental initiatives. Comprehensive Plan:  No report. Economic Development:  Facilitated Economic Development Committee Business Development Workshop on Commercial Fishing and Aquaculture with attendance of approximately 35 participants. Community Development:  Review of architect’s report to North Housing Alliance regarding improvements to mobile home (previous discussion with Town Board to exceed funding limit.) Work required is too extensive and will not improve site to HUD standards—resident informed no work will be done for improvements. . Executive Safety:  Facilitated Executive Safety Committee meeting that included participation of NYS Municipal Workers’ Compensation and Roy Reeves Insurance. They provided report highlighting Southold employee accidents and losses. In addition, reviewed employee surveys/comments regarding perceptions of workplace safety. Other:  Submitted article of “News from Southold Town” for Fishers Island Fog Horn.  Meeting with Fran Sladkus and Jeff Standish regarding Southold VOICE shoreline clean-up in May.  Discussion with Cindy Smith, Family Service League, requesting Town coordination of community service program.  With Supervisor Russell and Councilman Ruland, interviewed potential members for Youth Bureau and Economic Development Committees.  Review of Suffolk County Downtown Revitalization grant funding and possible applicability for Fishers Island Community Theatre.  Facilitated Supervisor attendance on WLNG. .  Scheduled May hamlet community meetings at libraries and firehouses.  Developed Community Notices advertisement for the Suffolk Times.
