D [,/AF' 1 : ori r1i t - L�-,5 S0u1`3 ,!; Town �lerl Present: Linda Ruland Nydia Portillo, Eleanor Lingo, Louise Hug, Jean LePre, Sonya Spar, Valerie Shelby, LeRoy Heyliger, William Ruland, Cindy Smith, Loretta Geraci Carolyn Peabody is excused as is Mike Domino and Marjorie Day Valerie makes a motion to accept the minutes, Loretta seconds. All are in favor. MLK CELEBRATION- Comments are: It was terrific, seemed like 70% of the attendees were African American. Ultimately we'd like to see a better representation of the cross sections of the whole community present. We made $477. The treasurer will put the money in the ABTF town account. There is some discussion about changing the venue for future events. We need to reach out and plan early, make a save the date in October and start after the annual picnic, putting it oon our agenda in September. There was a letter read from Mayor Nyce apologizing for not attending the MLK due to family obligation. SCHOOLS: Mattituck- Carolyn went to Board of education and discussed work program. They did MLK work day of service student are represented. Their community service program did 24 birthday boxes and also they were able to do a collection for FSL food pantry. Southold- Representatives were supposed to be a this ABTF meeting to bring their commitment project. Greenport- had students represented at MLK work day. POLICE: Sonya received a report from Suffolk 'Co police stating they will do a training and test in September. ABTF will encourage schools to influence our children and to promote diversity in our towns for scholarships and jobs. There has been no information about gang activity and prevention programs.. ADL training with police follow up. The Guardian Angels have a presence in Greenport and Riverhead. OLD BUSINESS:- All members need a community service form. NEW BUSINESS: Check with the town about how they are doing with their training plans. Can ABTF assist? Valerie got a call from a serviceman thanking the ABTF for the bags. She also reports the dinner went well on MLK day. The committee to honor a community member couldn't meet due to bad weather. Another meeting is scheduled for Feb 23, at Ebenezer deli at 10 am. Leroy had an article printed in Newsday on the Dignity Act self reporting system. Many incidents are nto reported on school violence. Constant vigilance would ensure better compliance. ABTF will set a date for a community meeting to discuss the issue of bullying/cyber bullying. (arrange in May). We may develop a committee to do this. Schools need to be accountable, try to get parents and kids to come. Loretta makes a motion, Sonya seconds to write a letter to clear a date for a community meeting to be set in May. Pizza served? All are in favor. March is deadline for schools to develop plan. April short videos schools are developing Next meeting we need to choose people to be on this committee.
