The purpose of this article is to provide further insight into why Thermo Pride units are built or equipped as they are. The heart of a furnace is the heat exchanger. With the exception of the 250,000 and 320,000 BTU output lowboys, all Thermo Pride oil furnace heat exchangers are uniquely sized. Rather than compromise one heat exchanger size to try and meet a range of BTU capacities, Thermo Pride has sized its heat exchangers specifically to each different BTU capacity. This means .. optimum performance AND longer life. The octagon heat exchanger is almost a Thermo Pride trademark. The eight -sided radiator is different than all other competitive shapes and has been proven in over 40 years of use. The octagon provides more strength than a square design and there is no 900 (square) corners dead space. The 450 angles of the octagon create more turbulence than a round, smooth radiator where combustion gases can streamline. This design results in improved surface contact, better heat absorbtion, lower stack temperatures and higher efficiency. The octagon shape makes inspection and cleaning access very simple, resulting in lower maintenance cost to the owner. The formed clean- out covers, used with a gasket, provide an excellent seal while the brass nut will not heat freeze to the hasp stud. All Thermo Pride oil furnace heat exchangers are made of 13 -gauge hot roll steel, almost double the thickness of 18 -gauge steel, commonly found in some competitive brands. Heavier steel means longer life, greater strength, and less chance of expansion/contraction movement or noise. The outer surface of our heat exchangers is coated with a pure ground copper metal powder. This finish adds to the show -room appearance but, more importantly, helps prevent external corrosion. The copper turns dark gray once the heat exchanger is fired, but the copper will sparkle back if a Bernz torch is played on it. In other words, the copper remains. The kiln -fired ceramic clay refractory chamber is another Thermo Pride exclusive. These chambers are used in the 72,000 through 151,000 BTU output models. Besides being highly durable, they allow quiet combustion and operate at relatively low temperatures while the burner fires. A corbel top effectively contains the combustion process. The refractories are light weight due to the porosity of the clay walls and are excellent in transferring heat to the heat exchanger. All Thermo Pride oil furnaces use a Beckett 3450 RPM flame retention burner as standard. The Riello Burner is offered as an option on most models. These burners provide complete and very high combustion efficiency. For added durability, the Beckett burners come standard with a stainless steel air tube equipped with a ceramic fiber sleeve. Controls made by Honeywell (a name highly recognized by the consuming public) and readily available in the after -market are another Thermo Pride standard feature. The constant ignition primary control, cad cell, fan and limit, T87F round thermostat and fan center (on the direct drive blower models) are all Honeywell. In addition, a top of the line RC type draft regulator, made by Field, is shipped with each furnace. Suntec oil pumps are used on our standard burners. Air moving capability is of growing importance, especially relating to air conditioning. Belt drive blowers and four -speed direct drive blowers are available in all lowboy, highboy and counterflow models. The direct drive models come standard with a Honeywell fan center and are "A/C ready". Horizontal furnaces are only available in the direct drive version, while the 200, 250 and 320,000 BTU output lowboys are available only with ball-bearing equipped belt drive blowers. These latter units can handle up to 10 or 12 tons of air conditioning, depending upon the model involved. The horizontal models are available in either a front vent or a reverse vent version. With the direct drive blower, these furnaces are versatile. They can, in other words, be rotated end-to-end or rolled front -to -rear with no need to change blower or heat exchanger supports. This provides complete flexibility in determining warm air flow direction and in positioning the burner and/or vent pipe conveniently in a replacement furnace situation. All lowboy models come standard with a heavy gauge steel base pan supported with base rails. The strength provided in the base means long life, as well as proper support for the heavy heat exchanger, casings, ductwork, etc. The rails also raise the solid base pan above the floor_, thus reducing corrosion potential. The appearance of Thermo Pride furnaces reflect our quality image. Rounded casing corners bring a definite higher level of "polish" or "completeness" to the units. Those corners, coupled with the radius casing edges and interlocking panels, provide strength, reduced air leakage, smoother fits and produce a very pleasing look. With the exception of the horizontals, all models have enclosed vestibules. This feature translates to quieter operation and safety (no exposure of hot surfaces). Heavy duty, chrome handles are standard on all models, as is a two- tone baked enamel finish. All panels are painted inside and out. The maroon and silver paint is metallic, thus providing "depth" in appearance. All of these features combine to present one of the most complete oil furnace product lines on the market. When one considers available BTU capacities (from 56,000 BTU to 320,000 BTU ouput), front and rear vent models, belt and direct drive models, plus the Mobile Home furnace, Thermo Pride Oil Furnaces stand at the head of the class. 4134=- I Imaw I - , , 144W It's To Your Advantage Because... Should you sell your home, the war- ranty can easily be transferred to the new owners. For your family's comfort, and your own peace of mind, consider the advantages of a comfortable, efficient, and safe oil fired furnace from THERMO PRIDE. • • • At the heart of every THERMO PRIDE oil -fired furnace is the "Octa- therm" heat exchanger. This unique eight -sided design serves to agitate the combustion gases... retaining them longer and causing increased surface contact for better heat transfer. This design also avoids the "dead space" of a square corner heat exchanger and the "streamlining" of gases over the long smooth surface of a round heat exchanger. As a result, the octatherm design generates increased efficiency at a lower cost. THERMO PRIDE'S oil -fired furnaces incorporate controls produced by the industry's most respected manufacturers. The Controls package includes the following ■ A Honeywell automatic/manual fan and limit control which oversees the unit's internal temperatures ■ A Honeywell primary control module and "cad cell" monitor the proper and safe operation of the oil burner ■ A Field barometric draft regulator which provides for exact draft settings 14 All THERMO PRIDE oil -fired furnaces come equipped with a precision -built flame retention burner. This proven burner features a stainless steel tube and end cone, a design which helps provide an exacting, vaporized mixture of fuel and air. The result is a hotter flame which burns evenly, more completely, and with resulting higher efficiency. The structural integrity of the octatherm heat exchanger has remained constant over the years because THERMO PRIDE has refused to cut corners in the construction of this vitally important component. Today, just as in past years, the heat exchanger is still fabricated out of 13 -gauge, copper coated steel. Compare this with some competitors who now use 17 or 18 gauge uncoated steel in their heat exchangers. 13 GAUGE 18 GAUGE HEAVY GAUGE STEEL LIGHT GAUGE STEEL THERMO PRIDE'S copper -coating helps to prevent corrosion from external conditions of high humidity that might be present in the home. THERMO PRIDE further stands out in the industry by individually sizing its heat exchangers for the BTU capacities of virtually every model furnace offered. A Honeywell fan center is standard on all oil -fired furnace models which are equipped with direct -drive, four speed blowers. This makes these models air conditioning ready. What this means to you is proven per- formance, reliability and peace of mind. Successful burner ignition is proven by a "cad cell" that is light sensitive. If, for some reason, the burner should not ignite ... or...it should lose its flame ... this "cad cell" would signal the primary control module to shut the burner down. What this means to you is high efficiency, smooth and quiet operation, reliable performance, and safety. This helps to assure that the maximum combustion efficiency can be achieved. What this means to you is durability, reliability and efficient performance. Quality that will keep your family comfortable for years to come. One of the key elements in heating comfort is temperature rise. It is defined as the amount of heat that is added to the circulating household air as it crosses the heat exchanger. During the blustery, frigid months of winter, homeowners expect the air from their registers to be warm. Often times, however, with some furnace brands, it does not feel warm. This is due to what the industry refers to as the "low temperature rise" of the heating unit. THERMO PRIDE oil -fired furnaces are designed to provide a high temperature rise so that you can feel comfortably warm on the coldest days or nights. 1.3 THERMO PRIDE'S oil -fired furnaces are available in sizes ranging from 56,000 B.T.U. to 320,000 B.T.U. out- put. In addition to having one of the most complete lines of B.T.U. capacities, THERMO PRIDE also offers a complete selection of furnace styles. Lowboys, for basement use, feature vestibule -enclosed burners and either rear or front flues. Highboys and counterflows (which also have vestibule enclosed burners) for basements/ utility rooms ... and closets/utility rooms, respectively, feature a top flue discharge. And horizontals, for crawl spaces, are available with either front or rear flues. When replacing an existing furnace, you'll appreciate knowing THERMO PRIDE furnaces are generally much closer in size to your original unit, thus greatly reducing the amount of duct- work modification required. The broad product line and variety of furnace styles, can save considerable money in installation costs. With THERMO PRIDE oil -fired furn- aces, comfort and quietness are assured whether you elect a model equipped with a belt -driven blower ...or one which features a direct -drive, four speed blower. Both are designed to provide optimum performance. For many years, belt -driven blowers have been popular with heating/cooling professionals due to the infinite range of blower settings they afford. They are especially suitable in heating only applications. THERMO PRIDE'S direct -drive blower speeds are easily changed between heating and cooling. When the seasons change, if you have air conditioning and you want to go from heating to cooling, the direct -drive blower is automatically set for the correct amount of air flow required for cooling your home.
