LIFEGUARD TRAINING PROGRAMS: While the recreation department is not
sponsoring a lifeguard training program, we do let interested participants know about
other programs in the area — specifically at the Brookhaven Lab in Upton and St.
Joseph's College in Patchogue.
SUMMER 2015 BEACHES: While our beaches don't open until Saturday, June
27, 1 have already begun preparing for the summer season.
PROGRAM INSTRUCTOR BACKGROUND CHECKS: Letters were mailed earlier
this month to all 2015 recreation department program instructors requesting permission for
our local police department to conduct a background check. Part of the letter states:
The Town of Southold has established a new policy whereby all instructors and
employees must have an annual background check performed by the town's police
department. Background checks are a necessary part of being hired or for
continuation of employment. They are not meant to offend or to invade privacy, they
are conducted merely to assure the safety of employees, customers, and
participants.
Respectfully Submitted,
Ken Reeves
Recreation Supervisor
