The proposed action has been reviewed to Chapter 268, Waterfront Consistency Review of the Town of Southold Town Code and the Local Waterfront Revitalization Program (LWRP) Policy Standards. Based upon the information provided to this department as well as the records available to me, it is my recommendation that the proposed action is CONSISTENT with the below referenced LWRP Policy Standard and therefore is CONSISTENT with the LWRP. 12.1 Protect agricultural lands from conversion to other land uses. C. Protect existing agricultural use and production from adverse impacts due to: 3. environmental changes which are likely to reduce agricultural productivity or quality, including, but not limited to, changes in groundwater quantity and quality. The reduction of agricultural productivity (crops) from damage and loss due to grazing and trampling from whitetail deer (Odocoileus virginianus) has occurred in the Town of Southold. The impacts are a result of an increase in current deer populations (deer/mile2) over historical populations and corresponding pressure to find food sources. The rise in population is mostly attributed to the greater availability of cover or ideal habitat within the Town. Pursuant to Chapter 268, the Town Board shall consider this recommendation in preparing its written determination regarding the consistency of the proposed action.
