PO Box 1179 Southold, NY 11971 RE: Permit#8212 Dear Sir: The Boat Basin you approved and gave a permit should be revaluated. Fines and definite amendments should be imposed. Enclosed are 14 pictures in sequence for your review. It was unnecessary to fill and devastate the vegetation to the south of the basin. Given the contractor used heavier gage sheathing and more 6"by6" pilings then engineered the southern wall that dead ends in the creek is falling in. As pictures dictate the contractor after backfilling the tie-rod system,started to dredge out the center of the basin,when the southern wall started to collapse. To save his profits with no regard to the property ownership nor the environment their failed attempt to right the wall allowed him to lose the dredge material by filling in the creek, increasing the slope of the bank,and devastating the vegetation. Losing dredged material reduces the amount need to be trucked off site. If there was ever a time to impose a fine this is it! Where is the silt screening and straw bales? Should it be found that the structure is unsound, material used was not installed deep enough;the lay- logs and dead-men were not installed far enough back from the basin walls edge because of the lack of property, I recommend removal. If you permit the basin to stay given its integrity I recommend having the southern wall straightened, remove the excessive fill dumped into the creek as well as a reduction in the slope of the area south of the basin, revegetate with Alterniflora along the water's edge and whatever other natural vegetation was removed that matches.A daily fine should be imposed until the work is completed. The permit should also be amended to install perpendicular extensions at the end of the basin walls along the water's edge to the property lines so neighboring owns can connect to protect their properties from eroding into the dredged mouth of the basin. I understand the need for capping on the basin wall, • 0 but the cantilevered deck on the northern basin wall (structurally sound or not)encroaches too much toward the property line. I also see no need for the 6"by6" pilings to extend above the top of the basin wall, looks like the rough stud framing of a house on top of a bare foundation. I request you revise the permit to incorporate a perpendicular extension at the end of the North Basin Wall to my property line along the creek SCTM: 144-4-42. Someone didn't use common sense;the faulty engineered design has caused and will continue to cause my property to the north to sluff into the mouth of the newly dredged basin. Hence, I will be submitting a permit to connect to the basin/edge of my property line with a continued wall of the same. Please advise as to the addendum so I can submit a properly engineered design.
