The minutes of October 20, 2014 were approved.

Five students participated in leaf raking for
seniors. A community service activity for San Simeon residents will occur on a Saturday
in December (baking cookies and making holiday cards.)
East End Youth Leadership Summit:
Approximately 125 students from East End high
nd
schools attended the summit on October 22 sponsored by East End Youth Bureaus and
service providers.
East End Partnership for Youth:
Approximately 30 participants attended the networking
th
forum for parents and youth service providers on November 6 that featured Reverend
Roderick Pearson of the Suffolk County Youth Bureau.
Presentation of The Retreat:
Ms. Atkinson-Barnes of The Retreat described their
services. They offer community service to youth in East Hampton and provide several
programs for students including the Teen Leadership Project to promote awareness
about abuse and its prevention. Jillian reported that Greenport High School will promote
th
an anti-bullying education initiative on December 19. The Board agreed that the Youth
Bureau should sponsor an educational forum for parents and students on dating and
violence (around prom time.)
Parent Universities:
Phillip informed the Board that Suffolk County has altered their
strategy and rather than host two separate parent universities, they would like to
determine what school districts are providing parent workshops and what school districts
would like to develop workshops. The County has $10,000 allocation to assist with the
development of workshops for schools. School district contacts (Andrea, Elaine, Patty
and Jillian) should assess need for their respective schools.
Educational Workshops: T
he Board agreed to host a series of educational workshops
in the Spring:
Teen Dating and Violence (The Retreat)
Safe Driving (EAC Network)
Alternatives to College (Job Corps)
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service:
Discussion and development of projects, to
date CAST, Cutchogue Cemetery, Adopt A Platoon and North Fork Animal Welfare
League have identified Day of Service projects. It was suggested that the Recreation
Center be reserved for the day so people can work there as needed, could also function
as donation site. Additional suggestion to contact Janine Ruland of Mattituck High School
1
to solicit students to participate. Phillip and Bob have sent letters/emails requesting that
organizations participate in the event. It would be appreciated if Youth Bureau board
members could solicit projects from relevant contacts that could benefit from
participating in the Community Service Day.
Gang Violence Forum:
Phillip announced that local police departments and elected
officials will host a public forum on gang violence. It was tentatively scheduled for
thth
December 4 but has been rescheduled to December 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the
