INFORMATION TO POLICE COMMITTEE RE: Police Cars for 1979
NOTE: Only vehicle normally offerred which will meet general specifications is
1979 Chrysler Newport. Both Ford and General Motors do not produce police pack-
ages this year which substantially meet our specifications--- most notably that
no limited-slip differential is available; battery is not large enough and the
alternator is not large enough; engines are smaller without four barrel carbur
ator or dual exhaust.
There is both a state contract for the Chrysler and a Suffolk County contract.
Both contract specifications fall quite closely to our specifications without
changes. The county contract has a few additional items in their specs which
I feel are not necessary for us.
