Town of Southold Youth Bureau Board Minutes
October 20, 2014
YB Present:
Cristina Witzke, Laura Held, Robert Duffin, Sarah Benjamin, Andrea Nydegger,
Elaine White, Patricia Mellas, Karen McLaughlin, Officer Bill Brewer, Councilman Bill Ruland and
Excused:
Phillip Beltz. Jillian Ruroede, Jeff Standish and Councilman Jim Dinizio.
Approval of Minutes
The minutes of September 22, 2014 were approved.
Youth Advisory Council Membership:
Attendance is sporadic as many students have
competing activities (sports, theatre, etc.) Later in the evening Dr. Melvyn Morris of
Brookhaven National Lab will discuss environmental initiatives.
East End Youth Leadership Summit:
Students from East End high schools will attend

a summit on October 22 sponsored by East End Youth Bureaus and service providers.
East End Partnership for Youth:
A networking forum for parents, youth service

providers and youth is scheduled for November 6 at 4:30 p.m. at the David Crohan
Community Center in Flanders.
Request of North Fork Alliance Center:
They requested borrowing ping pong tables
from the Recreation Center for a contest at Southold High School. Andrea stated that
the North Fork Alliance sponsored an excellent training on detecting drug use among
youth at Mattituck High School for local school personnel.
Review of 2014 Accomplishments and Setting Goals for 2015:
Phillip distributed a
list of activities and accomplishments for 2014. Additional discussion of goals and
activities for 2015. Most activities of 2014 will also be planned for 2015.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service:
The Youth Bureau will sponsor community
service activities on Dr. King’s birthday. A preliminary list of projects was identified (see
attached.) This will be finalized at the November meeting. Phillip will contact
organizations that participated in the Community Service Day event to ascertain if they
have projects.
