PUBLIC HEARING
JANUARY 16, 2001
7:32 P.M.
ON A PROPOSED "LOCAL LAW IN RELATION TO CHANGING AN EXISTING YIELD SIGN
TO A STOP SIGN ON PECONIC BAY BOULEVARD IN AN EASTERLY DIRECTION AT THE
INTERSECTION WITH BAY AVENUE IN MATTITUCK".
Present:
Supervisor Jean W. Cochran
Justice Louisa P. Evans
Councilman William D. Moore
Councilman John M. Romanelli
Councilman Brian G. Murphy
Councilman Craig A. Richter
Town Clerk Elizabeth A. Neville
Town Attorney Gregory A. Yakaboski
SUPERVISOR COCHRAN: We will go to the next one.
COUNCILMAN RICHTER: "Whereas there has been presented to the Town Board of the Town of
Southold, Suffolk County, New York, on the 3rd day of January, 2001 a Local Law entitled, "A Local
Law in Relation to changing an existing yield sign to a stop sign on Peconic Bay Boulevard in an
easterly direction at the intersection with Bay Avenue in Mattituck", now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED that the Town Board of the Town of Southold will hold a public hearing on the aforesaid
Local Law at the Southold Town Hall, 53095 Main Road, Southold, New York, on the 16th day of
January, 2001 at 7:32 P.M. at which time all interested persons will be given an opportunity to be
heard.
This proposed "Local Law in Relation to changing an existing yield sign to a stop sign on Pecorfic Bay
Boulevard in an easterly direction at the intersection with Bay Avenue in Mattituck" which reads as
follows:
Be it enacted by the Town Board of the Town of Southold as follows:
I. Chapter 92 (Vehicles & Traffic) of the Code of the Town of Southold is hereby amended as
follows:
1. Article III, Section 92-30 (Stop & Yield Intersections) is hereby amended by adding the
following:
Direction At Intersection Location
Stop Sign on of Travel With (hamlet)
Peconic Bay Blvd Easterly Bay Avenue Mattituck
Dated: January 4, 2001. By Order of the Southold Town Board. Elizabeth A. Neville, Southold Town
Clerk." I have a Legal Notice that it was published in the local paper, an affidavit that it was posted on
the Town Clerk's Bulletin Board. No correspondence.
SUPERVISOR COCHRAN: You have heard the reading of the Local Law changing an existing yield
sign to a stop sign on Peconic Bay Boulevard in an Easterly Direction. Is there anyone that would like
to speak either pro or con to this Code change?
BENJAMIN SCHWARTZ: Since I have been talking so much. I commend the Board. You are talking
about the end of Peconic Bay Boulevard, really? The terminus of Peconic Bay Boulevard by the park?
I am curious, too, about the yield at the other end of Bay Avenue onto the Main Road. Is there still a
yield sign there?
SUPERVISOR COCHRAN: I don't know. Send us something in writing.
COUNCILMAN ROMANELLI: At the Hess Station?
BENJAMIN SCHWARTZ: Yes. Still a yield sign, and with all the development that has gone on
there. You know if people try to yield, and pull out especially turning left that could cause some
hazardous conditions. Thank You.
SUPERVISOR COCHRAN: Drop something in writing, and we will forward it to the Transportation
Committee, and I forward it to the Highway Superintendent. The whole world gets it for input. I will
close the hearing.
