Economic Development Committee (EDC) Meeting Minutes
October 09, 2014
Present:
Steve Latham, Tony Cocheo, Linton Duell, Carolyn Fahey, Rona Smith, Councilman
Excused/Absent:
Bill Ruland and Phillip Beltz. John Stype, Donielle Cardinale, Ian Wile and
Supervisor Scott Russell. Meeting began at 1:30 p.m.
I Love New York Bus:
New York State promotional initiative utilizing busses provided by the
Hampton Jitney to various destinations throughout the state. Two North Fork events will
showcase local wineries; however, this will not provide many opportunities for other businesses
to benefit from the initiative.

375 Anniversary:
Phillip reported that the North Fork Promotion Council and the Hamptons
Visitor Council have both approached their respective legislators to earmark funding for the
promotion of tourism in September 2015 to celebrate anniversaries. In the near future, several
EDC members will meet with the Town’s appointed committee to discuss working in
collaboration to highlight their work. Carolyn suggested that the Long Island Convention and
Visitors Bureau may be able to assist their efforts.
Survey for Document Shredding:
Only 17 surveys were received and there is not sufficient
interest to provide this service to businesses. Philip acknowledgedthe assistance from Jackie
Baker of Southold Business Alliance.
Additional Ideas for Implementation:
Discussion of developing initiatives to benefit businesses off-season, in particular the
winter months. Tony stated that businesses could benefit during the holidays—Carolyn
stated that American Express’ “shop local” campaign can be beneficial. Phillip reported
that Peter Clarke of Greenport Business District has reached out requesting assistance
from EDC. Agreement that EDC will work towards partnering with BID for “Shellabration”
and host shop local campaign in December that will collaborate with Shellabration.
Phillip and Carolyn will meet with Peter and invite him to next EDC meeting.
Steve and Carolyn will host a workshop in late January on financing that will assist
primarily existing businesses. Will also work with the Long Island Development
Corporation.
Carolyn suggested invitation to dynamic and active Chambers of Commerce presidents
(e.g. Bay Shore) to meet with local chambers.
Linton suggested building upon the Washington Birthday Parade in Greenport.
Next Meeting Date/Time:
Meeting will be set after Phillip and Carolyn meet with Peter Clarke
of Greenport BID. Meeting ended at 2:24 p.m.
