A Local Law in Relation to "Restricted Truck Traffic on Love Lane" Chapter 92, Article__
BE IT ENACTED by the Town Board of the Town of Southold as follows:
§92- . Restricted truck traffic
I. Purpose.
The Town Board of the Town of Southold finds that with the increasing
development and population of the Town of Southold, transportation activities are

Should any provision of this chapter be adjudged by any court of competent
jurisdiction to be invalid, such judgment shall not affect, impair, or invalidate the
remainder of this chapter, but shall be confined to its operation to the clause,
sentence, paragraph, section or part thereof directly involved in the litigation in
which such judgment shall have been rendered.
By Order of the Town Board of the Town of Southold, Southold, New York. Dated: June 6,
2000. Elizabeth A. Neville, Southold Town Clerk." We have notice that it was on the Town
Clerk's Bulletin Board, and that it was published in the local paper. There is no correspondence
in the file.
SUPERVISOR COCHRAN: You have heard the reading of the Local Law in Relation to
Restricted Truck Traffic on Love Lane in Mattituck. Is there anyone that would like to address
the Board on this topic? Paul?
PAUL SPARZA: Paul Sparza, Mattituck. Are we talking about delivery trucks, and the bigger
track, or my truck? I have a pickup.
SUPERVISOR COCHRAN: Delivery, tractor-trailer, big track, s, they take down wires, they take
down trees.
PAUL SPARZA: The road is so narrow as it is. It is a little scary going down. In addition is there
an allowed speed limit on Love Lane, too? That is not part of this.
SUPERVISOR COCHRAN: No it is not.
PAUL SPARZA: Unloaded, 3,400 pounds.
SUPERVISOR COCHRAN: This starts at 10,000. Sir?
FRANK WILLS: My name is Frank Wills, also, Mattituck. The gentleman just now brought up
a very interesting point, the speed limit on Love Lane. I know there is a yellow sign posted
recently, oh, about a year ago, that says 20 miles an hour, but understand that is an advisory. It
doesn't mean anything. It is a courtesy for the Police Department. If any of you are interested in
staying on Love Lane for maybe an hour any morning you will see people, not just tracks, but
cars coming down maybe 35, 40 miles an hour, and once in awhile people, including myself will
yell at them to slow down. It has no effect. I suggestion the Police Department put up a speed
trap, and maybe enforce this things.
SUPERVISOR COCHRAN: We can make that recommendation to the Police Department.
Anyone else like to address the Town Board in relation to limited restricted truck traffic on Love
Lane in Mattituck. This is supported by the Chamber. As you know they are working very hard.
They received a grant. The Town Board helped them get a grant, and they are working to
3
beautify and put in the gas lines and so forth in downtown, and they do have problems with
trucks, and both sides of the street. There is access behind the stores. The big trucks do come
through. They have taken down wires. They have broken tree branches, and this I think will
make it a little safer, and happier for everyone. Anyone else? (No response.) If not, I will close
the hearing.
Southold Town Clerk
